This is a weak offseason FA except one big name (melo). Trade market outside love, asik is also pretty quiet.

If danny cant trade the 6th from now until draft night for an solid vet is he going to instead trade rondo to move fwd with the rebuild??

We cant have last season happen again. Major incompatibilities with rondo and most of the players. Rondo also wont want to comeback if he is put through a similar season.

Trying to make something happen wont cut it and danny knows it.

I think Ainge will wait it out. No need to rush into a decision.

I think that a top 3 pick would have made it more likely that Rondo be traded, because the team may have been tempted to build around Embiid, Wiggins or Parker. (Parker may have been the exception in that in terms of scoring, his game is more NBA ready.)

The fact that we got the 6th pick and the dropoff after 1-4 (including Exum) is so steep makes us more likely to trade the pick for immediate help for Rondo. (someone like a Melo or a Love), unless Danny is truly masking his lust for someone in that second tier of players.

Unless Danny gets a Godfather offer, I think Rondo stays and gets help.

Exactly.  I actually don't think this thing is going to turnaround overnight, either.  Multi-year rebuild and I don't see Danny panicking because of what happened last night.

Yeah, I mean I doubt he's shocked.

What happened last night was pretty much what was supposed to happen. Celtics had the highest % to get the #6 pick.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
It's very possible.

Danny's first choice will be to add 1 or 2 guys or trade up to get a top 4 guy.

If he can't do either of them then he'll have a long hard think about keeping Rondo.
He'll 100% be shopping Rondo HARD before the draft to see what is put on the table.
I believe he sees the top 3 as much better than he's letting on and he wants one of them if he can't get Love.

example trade:

Trade Rondo to Sacto for 8th pick +Mclemore+filler+assets.

Send 6th and 8th pick for a top 4 player.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I'm pretty against trading Rondo, but if I really had to, Sacramento is the only team with the assets to interest me.

#8, Mac, something else is a package I wouldn't be entirely disappointed with. I think...

I don't think there's any chance Rondo resigns with Sacramento, or any other team than Lakers, Houston, NYK...

pretty much since we lost the lottery and dont have a chance of getting an "impact franchise guy" If i'm ainge you have two options.

1. Try to trade for an allstar like Kevin Love, then try to get complimentary pieces and build around Rondo/Love

2. Blow the whole thing up and start from the ground.
