I still don't know why there are so many people out there who think we swindled Minny for KG.

KG was entering his 13th year. The Celtics gave up one of the best young bigs in the league in Al Jefferson, a draft pick that should have been Steph Curry (they took Flynn one pick ahead of Curry), another first rounder, as well as Green, Telfair, and Gomes - all of who were still considered to have quite a bit of upside.

Honestly, if Minny had kept Jefferson and made the obvious selection in Curry, we might be talking about how the T-Wolves ripped of the Cs.

Actually, I don't know why anyone would assess the Garnett trade as you have.

Could not disagree more.

Ainge traded Jefferson, the pick and a bag of trash for Garnett. Jefferson's not bringing anyone a title, y'all hate Green because he had the temerity to be traded for Perkins and I'm not going to dignify the last three players with any comment.

It was a heist of epic proportions.

It was the best deal they were offered. It's why teams generally don't trade star players unless they have to.

It's funny how perceptions change.  At the time, Golden State was seen as one of our big competitors for KG, because they could offer Monta Ellis and Andris Biedrins, along with taking back some salary.

It's hard to imagine that Biedrins was once considered to be maybe a half-step behind Big Al as a prospect.

Yes and no. I agree with you that other than Jefferson and the picks, we basically traded the Wolves a pu-pu platter of bench players.

The only difference is back then Al Jefferson actually had more value than I think Sullinger does now.

In 2007, Jefferson was not only a legit scorer, but someone who could play both PF and C. His only knock was he was kinda soft on defense. However, McHale really liked Jefferson and actually taught him to be a really good post player.

Sullinger, on the other hand, so far has proven he has talent but hasn't proven he can be a legit starter on a good team. HOWEVER, we also didn't have to include our 2007 1st rounder for KG like we would for Love, so it kinda balances out.

Long story, short I agree with you that we basically gave a Minny a "bag of goods" for a franchise player in KG. Only difference is I wish we had a guy like Jefferson right now who's shown he can be a double double guy who could net you a star like Love.

Looking back, sometimes I wonder if Ainge still would've gotten KG if he didn't even deal Al Jeff and substituted him with either Rondo, Perkins or both.

Now that would've been a heist but I think McHale really wanted Jefferson.

Yeah all the assets except Big Al turned out to be junk, but it was still the best package they were offered at the time.

GS and the Lakers offers were probably right behind us, though hindsight shows how weak GS's was given how little Ellis improved (and Beidrins declined massively).

Does anyone remember what the Lakers' offer actually was reported to be?
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

Odom, Kwame Brown's Bynum and a bunch of lower first round picks and prospects. (with the rights to Marc Gasol being one of those but who knows if it was included in the offer)

Edit: Brown wasn't in the rumored deals, it was Bynum. So the offer was Bynum, Odom and then lower end assets that weren't specified.

Interestingly enough it was repeatedly rumored as a multiple team deal, so Minnesota probably didn't want one of Odom/Bynum and wanted to flip them for additional draft picks.

Orlando still dealt Dwight Howard to the Lakers after that organization had to watch Shaq win LA title, after title, after title.  Shaq left as a free agent, I know, but Minnesota couldnt be any more bitter than Orlando was.

good points!!!!!!!!!!!!
LET'S GO CELTICS!
