Danny Ainge analyzed the Boston Celtics' status with Rajon Rondo and said the report that the New York Knicks turned down a trade for Rondo last summer is ?maybe the most ludicrous thing I?ve ever heard.?

Ainge again dismissed talk of Rondo's availability.

"That?s all speculation,? Ainge said. ?Those aren?t facts. People don?t know that, so it?s just people speculating on Rondo?s free agency next summer. That?s all that you?re hearing. You?re not hearing any facts from anybody. Those conversations haven?t even been discussed, so that?s just speculation.

?We love Rondo, and Rondo loves us. We don?t feel like there?s pressure that we have to do something or there?s some sort of deadline that something has to get done by. You know, sure Rondo has to see progress and Rondo has to believe that we?re going to be contenders and be in the picture and have something.

"But that?s an ongoing thing. I mean, we feel that way with everybody.?

Unless we offered Rondo for Melo, the Knicks are the one getting rejected. Not us.

I can't even imagine what Ainge could've asked for that would've been too much for NY, unless it was Melo.  They just don't have enough assets.  They do seem to love floating rumors about the awesome players (and coaches!) they totally could get, though.

Although if this was in the offseason Felton's value would've been a bit higher than the basically 0 it is now.  He had a pretty great series against us that year.  And if it was pre-Bargnani trade they still had a couple picks too.  Still doesn't seem very plausible.

I know you really can't take anything Danny says at face value but this is one of those occasions where I'm inclined to believe him.

I just don't see what would've intrigued the Celtics to make a trade with the Knicks.  The assets just aren't there.

I must agree. I like Dany a lot but don't trust most of the things he says. I do however trust that the Knicks have nothing to offer for Rondo and that this report is BS.

Ainge asked for melo if ny turned down a rondo trade. Just like when he asked for dirk when Dallas inquired.

You never know, he could have asked for Chandler, Hardaway, Shumpert and picks, or something along those lines. That's even if it happened, which I doubt.

Plausible events in the off season that would make me happiest, ranked in order:

1.) We get a top 3 pick
2.) We get the 5th pick, but Exum or Embiid falls to us
3.) We make a huge trade that makes us immediately better or blatantly hoses the other team
4.) The Knicks hire Mike Brown
5.) We move up on our #17 pick to like 11th and are able to get Saric without having to really give up anything of worth

This is just more bs from the NY media hoping that if they speed the rumors enough everyone will believe them and the market for Rondo will drop. There is no way Ainge offered them Rondo without asking for Melo in return. Sumpert was awful all year, and is worse than Bradley which we might let walk, Chandler is old, overpaid, and injured, and the Knicks have no draft picks. The notion that they can trade for any valuable player in the NBA without giving up Melo is absurd.

I was gonna suggest that you change #4 to "the Nets", because that would really cripple them and help us, but they already have that in JKidd so...nevermind!

Love this quote from Ainge in the same article...

Quote
?Rajon was our best player in a handful of playoff series, and you can?t find those guys. So that?s what I choose to focus on. I don?t care . . . I mean, of course I care and you?d love to have guys with no flaws. . . . It?s easy to find flaws with every player in the league, and I choose to focus on the things he can do and what he can become, and that?s why he?s still a Celtic ? because he can go out and average a triple-double in a playoff series, and he can be the best player in the gym in a seven-game series against three or four All-Stars. It?s just that simple, regardless of what his weaknesses may be ? and everybody has them. But Rajon?s a warrior.?
