Quite laughable now.  You got one guy (Parker) who probably will be very good.  The other two guys in the top three are boom or bust.  I'd say this draft is probably above average but not by much.  And to think that folks were all but certain about too many of these guys.

Now, wiggins and embiid could hit their ceiling.  And smart, exum, and randle could turn into all stars.  But that does not change the fact that right now, as prospects, his draft is not anywhere close to what many thought before the year.

That's the wrong way to look at it.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

Shouldn't we wait like 5 years before judging this draft? No one has played a single minute on an NBA game yet.

I don't know if this will turn out to be like '84' '96, or '03.  I also know that no one knew at the time that those drafts were going to be the gold standard.

I see talent in this draft. I think the top 6 have some real NBA potential. And, odds are, some gems will come out of the latter picks. No idea if any will be hall of fame caliber but no one will know for years.  Not ready to bury the 2014 draft before it even happens.

what is the opposite of "overhyping"? Underrating isn't the word i'm looking for. Well, whatever that word is, the OP is definitely doing it.

Yeah... let them play in the in NBA first. You can't judge how good a draft will be until after a few years. These premature projections does nothing. Kyrie Irving was suppose to be a weak number one overall pick, but he's already a 2X all-star.
PHX Suns: Russell Westbrook, Chris Bosh, Tristan Thompson, Trevor Ariza, Tony Allen, Trey Lyles, Corey Brewer, Larry Nance Jr., Trey Burke, Troy Daniels, Joffrey Lauvergne, Justin Holiday, Mike Muscala, 14.6

Yup.  And nobody thought Drummond and Lillard were supposed to be this good either.  It's not easy to judge something that hasn't happened yet.

While Harrison Barnes on the other hand, was suppose to be a stud. he can still be a great player. But that just goes to show you that you can't tell how a player will turn out until you actually see them play in the NBA. College and NBA are nothing alike.

Yeah.  It's simply too early to draw any conclusions.

It's funny how some of these drafts can get blown out of proportion one way or the other, though.  The 2012 draft was hyped as an amazing draft, and in hindsight it appears to have been a good one, but not a great one.  The 2009 draft was largely regarded as a lousy one -- with many commentators labeling it the worst in a decade -- but it's turned out to be a very good draft (and an extremely deep draft) in hindsight.

2012 wasn't amazing -- anthony davis was amazing.

Right. But that's not what the general consensus was prior to the draft.  Davis was liked (although not on a Greg Oden level), but the draft was thought to be full of potential stars. So far, the results aren't living up to the hype, with almost half the lottery picks looking like potential busts.

Anthony Davis and Damian Lillard are already all-stars. Beal and Drummond will most likely join them in the next couple of years. While guys like Harrison Barnes, Dion Waiters, and Terrance Ross have the potential to be all-stars. I think the 2012 draft will live up to the hype. That class is littered with talent. This doesn't even include prospects like John Henson, Terrance Jones, and our very own Jared Sullinger who wouldn't surprise me if they became all-stars or a key piece to some championship teams.

2012 draft is looking very good I think.  2 All-Stars, 2 guys who look like they could get there (Drummond and Beal), a bunch of other budding young contributors.  And tons of depth - 8-10 2nd rounders have played meaningful rotation minutes this year.

Now that Kendall Marshall's found a home the only real potential lotto busts are Rivers and Leonard.  MKG and Barnes have underachieved but look like they belong in the league, and Waiters has maturity issues but can play.  Robinson has bounced around but seems to be finding some stability in Portland.

I don't know, it seems like 2012 has been just as strong as expected, it's just that which players have and haven't thrived has been surprising in some cases.

While it's too early to tell either way, This is why there is an age limit in the NBA.  It's just way too hard to judge talent against high schoolers.

Could be the best .....why?

Because Danny, Mitch and the rest are saying one thing ......the players are average to poor

But they are doing all they can to grab their share of the glory in the background.

I never seen such a large gap between smoke screen talk down play out of GMs mouths and the actual energy to poise for drafting position.

I think also the lack of trades and people holding to draft picks for 2014 like pittbulls with their jaws locked around a hambone.

All this makes me think ALOT of really good talent is on the line.
