For all the talk of whether or not the C's should trade for Melo, the real questions lies in whether or not the Knicks would actually trade him at all.

Somehow I see them balking at any thought of it, regardless of the package offered.  The only scenario I could see Melo traded, is by way of S&T to a team over the cap (before/after signing).

So, I guess in that regard it's possible, but rather highly unlikely.  Ultimately, I suspect Melo will stay in NY.  There don't really appear to be any teams with cap space offering a much better situation than NY.  I don't think Melo is going to view playing with a broken Kobe in LA as a better chance at winning. Would Melo really prefer to play with Rondo in Boston (a rival), and alienate his 'home town'?

given how the knicks have played this year, i wonder if melo leaves this offseason, no matter what. quite frankly, i'd consider it if i were him...he's one of the only players who appears to be trying. given that he likes rondo, and given that we might have some cap space, i wonder if we might be a serious player to sign him if he opts out of his contract. i don't think he'd be a "problem" here, especially with rondo around (i also think his attitude, etc., have been blown out of proportion, as he's done most everything right w/ the knicks). i also think he's hungry to win, and wouldn't exactly mind going after his draft mates dirty wade and lebron. now, i don't think we'd be a frontrunner in any way...but maybe boston makes sense. we have rondo. we're going to probably get a decent player in the draft. we have sully and (if we don't trade him) green. dunno. could be interesting.
