Trade Wallace, Humphries, and a draft pick to either Orlando or Sacrmanto.

In return you get some bad salaries, but they dont last as long as Wallace's deal.  You also get a starting Sg to play with Rondo and Green.  They get a draft pick plus salary relief in Humphries.  Who do you take?

Nelson, Big Baby, Afflalo

or

Salmons, Hayes, Thornton

Is Afflalo or Thornton worth taking on a ton of salary next year (not getting relief from Humphries?) Is losing Walalce's 3rd year worth it?

Both of these teams have drafted guards (McLemore, Oladipo) that they need to make room for.  Also, Wallace could play minutes on either of these teams.  They each only have one SF (Harkless, Outlaw) that plays any minutes.  Salmons is getting the SF minutes in Sac.

This also allows both of those teams to tank because they are giving up 2 or 3 starters and at least one of their most consistent scorers.

Rondo  Bradley
(Thornton or Afflalo)   Lee
Green
Sullinger  Bass  Olynyk
Vitor

Then you still hopefully have a top ten pick and you can pick at the very least a James Young/Wayne Selden/Glen Robinson III if you dont hit the top-3 lottery.

And your reasoning behind the Celtics need to get a SG?

That part helps.  The main reason is to get rid of Wallace's 3rd year and get a ton of cap space when Nelson, Davis, Bass or Bass/Salmons/Hayes/Thornton all come off the books at the same time.

Thats 21 to 27 million all coming off the books at once.

If you are looking to trade Wallace for contracts that expire in 2015, why not wait until after this season?

Bradley could convince everyone that he is the starting SG that should be paired with Rondo for the next several years or the Celtics could end up drafting their future starting SG in the first round of the 2014 draft.  These guys are not long-term solutions at SG.

If you wait, you might not have to spend a draft pick (or as good of a draft pick) to dump Wallace's contract.

Thornton and Afflalo are average players who shouldn't be making more than the MLE.  Teams stuck in mediocrity tend to hand out long-term contracts to several players of their caliber.  You should be seeking better players if you are going to spend a draft pick in a trade.

I get your point, and I agree about thornton.

But let's look at Orlando.  Afflalo has a reasonable contract for a guy that is a 3rd option, he defends.  He just put up 36 points a night.

Orlando would be in super-tank mode plus they would have Hedu and Hump both coming off their books.  They would be able to get a really good free agent to come live in warm weather state with no state incom tax and play with oladipo, harmless, Nicholson, and a likely top 4 pick.

Boston gets a solid starting 5 of Rondo, Thornton, Green, Sullinger, Vitor and a young exciting bench in Olynyk, Bradley, and likely a top 10 pick level G/F like Robinson III.

You just have to deal with Bass, Baby, Lee, and Nelson being unhappy while they don't play.  All 4 guys may be able to get moved next deadline to contenders that needs bench help or someone looking for expiring deals.  Or you tough it out and let Bass, Baby, and Nelson all expire and have some cap help.

I am opposed to all trades that give up draft picks unless there are clear talent upgrades worthy of giving up draft picks for.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - Noah,
Deep Bench -

I used to be in the camp that we needed a better SG but Bradley is starting to win me over more.   His shot looks improved since moving off the ball.
