Let me first say that I'm not sold that a future with out Rondo is in the best interest of the celtics. It is also really early to project the draft but here goes anyway.

If DA plans on building a team without Rondo, I really am intrigued by the following scenario. (assuming we miss out of top 3 pick this draft)

With Cs pick (5-7?)Draft Harrisonhttp://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Andrew-Harrison-6456/ or Exum http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Dante-Exum-36198/

Trade Rondo
      Use him and Nets pick to gain a second lottery pick in this years draft (hopefully also move out Bass or Lee)

Rondo Pick (10-14) Draft Cauley-Stein http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Willie-Cauley-Stein-6441/ or Embiid http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Joel-Embiid-7225/

Obviously time will tell how these player play this year and where draft positions project.

When the dust settles the 2014-2015 Cs could go as follows

PG Harrison (20)
SG Avery (23)
SF Green (28)
PF Sully (22)
C  Cauley-Stein (21)
6th Olynyk (23)
7th Wallace (32)
8th Lee (29)
9th Faverani (26)

Definitely still a lottery team but young and high potential at ever position except for SF. This team also has great combination of scoring and D at the guard spot. With solid skill and size inside.

I'm not against trading Rondo necessarily--but certainly not for a #10-14 draft pick. Yikes!

Also, how do you shovel all that salary out, with him, for a pick?

This post wasn't focused on the details of trading rondo but more the possibility in the draft to create a balanced team while still taking BPA. A rondo trade would have to involve a team with cap space or expiring players to absorb his and hopefully Basses deals.

trade wasn't the point of this thread but these would both work. I am placing a lot of value on this years lottery. Also a tough pill to swallow is the fact that PG has become the easiest position to fill in the NBA taking some trade value away from Rondo.

clean the books of wallace and get all expiring vets and Sacs 2014 1st

or

get young talent in Ross and 2014 1st plus move Lee who at the time of the trade will have 2 yeas left on deal

I cannot begin to think about a Rondo-less future. We are without the Captain and KG, so I hope we hold onto Rondo. The only ONLY time I would consider or even pull the trigger for a Rondo trade is if he guarantees us a top 2 pick in this upcoming draft and not pick 10 - 14. Other than that, I am perfectly fine with Rondo staying on the Celtics.

I wouldn't mind trading rondo but definitely not for a 10-15 pick. Maybe Rondo and Brooks for a top 4 pick in 14, 1st round 2016, Rights to swap in 15, Expiring contract. Then you package Humphries and Lee/Bass to a contender for a late 1st round pick.

A Rondoless Future is no future at all;

But a crawfordless future looks to be as bright as the morning sun;
Peavey Bass Player - relearning to play after 10 years sucks;

I get your idea of trading Rondo for a lottery pick, but I agree with others that the pick is too low. This draft is considered so stellar because of the top 5-6 players, not because the talent is deeper than ever before. We would essentially be trading Rondo for a guy like Olynyk. While I have high hopes for Kelly, he is certainly not near the caliber of Rondo. Rondo is a franchise-level all-star and supreme playoff performer. There are many trade scenarios out there including him, but unless we are getting a top-level young big man in return, I just don't see him going anywhere...and that is fine with me.
