Some very interesting numbers for the much criticized Bass... (via Chris Forsberg)

Quote
Boston is a better team with him on the court this season. Just look at the plus/minus split: Even in four losses, the Celtics are plus-1 with Bass on the court; minus-31 when he's not. Boston's defensive rating with Bass on the floor is 95.1 and it jumps to 114.3 when he's off

Also, some interesting numbers for our beloved Fav and people clamoring for him to receive more PT (myself included)

Quote
Here's the troubling part: Boston's defensive rating with him on the floor is four points worse (106.2) than the team's average (102) and the offensive rating is even more of an eyesore (84.9 with Faverani on floor; 104.3 without). What's more, Boston has been a better rebounding team without him on the court based on early rebounding percentages

Best believe our numbers guru is taking a long look at these numbers.

This is a joke right?

Last game when olynyk left the court and bass came in, we started to lose the grip of the game. Then stevens took out bass for olynyk and things got better

Bass is in no way shape or form a defensive anchor type of player. Ok defender, but thats it

The part about Bass is cool; it gels with what Doc said about him last year (during the stretch when KG was down), and highlights the vast improvement that Bass has made defensively since he came here (where he was always half a step slow in his rotations).

Gives me some hope for Vitor, honestly. If Bass could pick up the D, maybe El Hombre can as well.

Brandon Bass is our defensive anchor... and that's why we're 0-4.

Was going to be my snarky remark. Curse you, numbers.
At least a goldfish with a Lincoln Log on its back goin' across your floor to your sock drawer has a miraculous connotation to it.

Bass doesn't affect the entire defensive game the way Garnett does, but he's a capable defender who has demonstrated ability to guard both PF and SF in a pinch.

He's not an "anchor" in this sense, but I'm not surprised by the defensive numbers, given the general inexperience of most of the rest of the squad.

I don't know if Forsberg is right about this. Basketball-reference has Vitor with the second best defensive rating on the team at 99 behind Humphries who has played all of one game. Bass' defensive rating is 103.

I would like to see more of a sample size before calling out Vitor's defense.  I don't think his defense is as good as his block total would suggest to some people but he still seems pretty capable.  In rebounding too.

I wouldn't say the same about Bass though, he is just a good defender.  Like others have said though calling him an "anchor" is a bit of a stretch.  He's been good though on defense.

Yeah, it's a terribly small sample size and the word "anchor" is used a bit tongue in cheek  ;)

I've enjoyed Bass so far.  He's played outstanding.

I love it because guys like him and Crawford were getting crapped on by this board day in and day out.  Yet they're both balling out there and shutting this board up.

Now the board will have to turn their sights on Humphries, Wallace, & company.
