In the end, with all this talk about building one's confidence and then, comfortable not being behind Pierce and Garnett, etc. Enough all ready!

Green has achieved what I've never done in my career, earn $8.3 million dollars in a single year.

If I saw that cash * 0.65  (taking care of the tax man) enter my account, I'd simply go crazy.

Yes, I wouldn't give a rat's if I had confidence or not.

I'd dribble, slam into guys, pull up for a jumper or if my back was to the basket ... pivot & sky hook. I'd have a yoga/pilates trainer, a martial art's SiFu, a hypnotist (to automate the free throws), and be training all the time.

People can insult me. Celtics fans can yell at me; Ainge could threaten to trade me and I wouldn't care. I'd simply become a maniac and eat/live/breath physical fitness and basketball, all of the time.

Every time I'd tried the above in my white collar career, I was threatened (with either a termination or a lateral demotion) by an executive VP for my outlandish behavior and thus, I'm not allowed to go ballistic in my career since I don't have a guaranteed salary.

Unfortunatley Jeff Green can't afford to do that. Yes, that is a lot of money, but if he acts like an ass and doesn't get results for a team, hes dropped. That money can and will go fast. It would be kinda embarassing to see him waiting tables 2 years out of the NBA because he went ballistic.

But, yes I do like the post and wish you were in the NBA. Sounds entertaining  ;)

That's $5.3M after taxes. I can park that in tobacco stocks and get ~6% dividend ($323K/yr) doing nothing. I don't know about you but that's enough for me to not worry about money for a long while.

You see, when you go nuts, soon ... the confidence kicks in because you've stirred up your primal instincts. And then afterwards, perhaps in 3-4 months, that's when you calm down and start to take your time, getting into a more polished flow.

But clearly at the onset, if you're dragging your feet, you're going nowhere.

So I say ... start out crazy !

Playing out of control doesn't make you better at basketball. Especially when you're at a skill position of SF largely.

Similar to how it doesn't make you a better white collar worker.

Corporate America is about C.Y.A. and upselling to executives, not great work, in general.

The reason why Steve Jobs is allowed to go *nuts* is that he's the major shareholder/CEO of the company. Otherwise, he'd be a senior engineering architect, constantly pitching his smart device ideas to steering committees and dealing with politics, slowing him down along the way.

When your in your low twenties and you have no other income, it is indeed a lot of money, but life is expensive. Especially one in the "NBA lifestyle"

And yes, you could put it in stocks but its not guarenteed.

Almost no humans who get such a windfall manage it "well". So when people say I'd just do "x" I just shrug. The history of things shows that the vast majority of us are delusional about what we'd actually do.

Besides like I said going ballistic is just a way to get foul trouble all the time and get benched, not succeed at a game of skill.

Effort is important, but you have to direct it properly.

Technically, whenever you switch jobs, that accruing 401K transfer is a type of windfall. For me, I've always transferred the cash value (since most 401K plans are a joke in general) into an IRA, simply to load up on dividend paying stocks (tobacco, utilities, consumables, etc) and then, I set it up to re-invest the quarterly dividend payouts into buying some more of the same stocks. That low risk strategy has helped me survive 2008 and today, it's annualized value has grown at ~15% per year. I don't put any of those speculative growth stocks (w/ zero dividend) into a retirement portfolio.

Yes, but didn't it take Perkins a year or two to calm down and not get those flagrant fouls? I think it'll take even less time for someone like Green, who's got better body control in general.
