I think another bit of it (why people prefer the idea of, say, resigning Barbs instead of just keeping Crawford) is that some people don't dig the trash talking/sock wearing type, and also the fact that the dude looks vaguely like an octopus flailing its tentacles when he sizes people up and drives.

I almost forgot about his feud with Carmelo...but yea, I always thought that he looks like someone on crack
