Why would Dallas do that?
In the despair of missing out on the Howard Sweepstakes, they have temporarily lost their minds? That's all I could figure.

i would definitely do it. TPE + freedom from Wallace's albatross contract + 2nd rounder? I'd do it. it's basically a salary dump but we get a 2nd rounder as a bonus.

I'm shocked that there are people who wouldn't do this trade.

Chances are they would want us to give them a second and not the other way around. Even if we had to give up a second or two, I still do this deal.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Perhaps they assume that Wallace's last season was an abberation, and not indicative of his play this year.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Can't see them doing it. I mean Wallace would play the 3 or the 4? They've got Marion already and they aren't paying both of them are they? Maybe Wallace and Humphries for Marion and a first rounder? Gets us under the cap and makes us purely tuuuurible. Gives them two starters next to Dirk.
Potentially:

Bynum
Dirk
Wallace
SG?
Calderon
with Humphries off the bench?

not a bad squad. Like an upgraded version of last years Nets. Depends on their Shooting guard. They could go for Monta Ellis for scoring I guess. They're trying to give Dirk a decent shot but it's hard to put guys around him. No one wants to play with the old guys except Nets.

Perfect 'roll the dice' scenario for them would be something like using cap space to sign and trade Mayo to his agreed-to deal for a re-signed Ellis.

Trade Marion for sign-and-traded Andrew Bynum. (4 years 50-55M / Philly needs to hit the cap floor and is lacking forwards anyway)

Use Early Bird rights to re-sign Wright. (3 years starting at $5.15M)

Use the cap exemption to add another big or swing man. Add the other(s) with the vet minimums.

Starters
Andrew Bynum
Dirk Nowitzki
Jae Crowder
Monta Ellis
Jose Calderon

Bench
Vince Carter
Brandan Wright
Shane Larkin
Bernard James
Gal Mekel
Ricky Ledo
Greg Oden and/or Jermaine O'Neal possibly Elton Brand
Carlos Delfino / Francisco Garcia /DeShawn Stevenson type

If all goes well they're a contender although an outside chance- all depends on Bynum of course.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I would buy him a first class seat there.

Honestly I liked Wallace in the past, but right now it makes no sense to have him on the team, I'd give picks to unload him.

I'm shocked that there are people who wouldn't do this trade.

Sounds like I'm in the minority on the 'NAY' side.... Which is fine.

I just don't see dumping Wallace for nothing as being part of Ainge's M.O.

I'll be willing to bet 100 TPs that whatever Ainge ends up trading Wallace for (since I *do* think he'll move Wallace when the right deal comes along) will be far better than a ~ #40 pick.

I agree that the TPE is a really good thing to have -- but we'd get a bigger one moving Humphries and he's on a more attractive deal for a team to take on w/o sending back salary.

Yes, yes, absolutely freaking yes.

We shed a bad 3-year contract. We avoid the luxury tax. We get a trade exception. We gain just a second round draft pick, but still a draft pick nonetheless.

I mean, that's a no-loss quadra-win situation.

If it's this or keep Wallace, of course we do this.  If it's this or hang onto Wallace to see if we can get better value down the line, it's much less of a no-brainer.

Wallace's contract doesn't hurt us this year since we aren't trying to contend.  It doesn't hurt us too much in 3 years since it'll be a big expiring.  It's only that middle year where it's a real sticking point.

I would give them a second rounder just to take Wallace

And we have bingo ladies and gentlemen.  But even if we did this they would never take Wallace.

It is better, I believe, for the long term rebuild to pay for Wallace now so that the celtics have tradable salary or expiring salary in a few years.

Now if ainge can actually turn this toad into a prince, more power to him.

I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.
