If Wallace does not get any better than his 7-plus points per game next year he will not be traded until the last year on his contract. He was atrocious last year, so I do not see how he cannot improve. I still do not like him on this team, but I don't despise him as much as I despise Kris Humphries.

He can be injured is one way how he cannot improve.

Wallace is only 30 and it's entirely possible that last year's horrible performance had more to do with being a bad fit in Brooklyn than Wallace simply forgetting how to play basketball.  Now, he's never going to be worth his contract but I think we need to at least wait until next season before completely burying the guy.

package Wallace in a Rondo trade...  send him them both to the Bobcats along with one of the future 1st rounders for MKG or something.

But really think about that... using Rondo to dump Wallace's contract... for what?  So we can sign Big Al or Josh Smith?  You dump Rondo to help the tank... signing an impact player gives you the same issue you had with Rondo... they will play you out of the lotto.  The only reason we'd want cap space is for flexibility... so we could absorb terrible contracts and pick up 1st rounders in the future.

Honestly, though... it doesn't matter if we get rid of Wallace.  We aren't trying to sign impact players.  That's counterproductive to a tanking.  We're not going to be in the market for getting better for at least 2 years... and by then Wallace will be a very valuable expiring contract.  It's a smart move.

People forget that when Danny brought in the "TERRIBLE" Theo Ratliff Contract with 2 years left on it... patience paid off, because in the final year of that deal we were able to use it as a key financial equalizer in the KG trade.  For all we know, Wallace at 3 years 10 million is a key part of Danny's 3-5 year rebuild.

I think this whole post is spot on.

Wallace and Rondo probably leave together. There is one team in the NBA with the Cap space and willingness to get these guys.

Charlotte: A team that makes bad decisions all the time, has the money, the picks and the young players (MKG, Kemba) to make this happen. Wallace is still the greatest Bobcat in franchise history (no offense to Emeka), team has never had a player the quality of Rondo. Fans would rejoice at this trade in Charlotte, especially after seeing their team select Cody Zeller. You seen that video yet? Hilarious

If that Ratliff contract was instead instant cap relief, we would have likely given up less for Garnett.

My point is, after we trade Rondo and Wallace, not only will we be in better position to absorb an unhappy superstar with less assets, we will have a better shot at Wiggins. The cherry on top would be the additional pick we knabbed from trading them.

Imagine Wiggins, upset but now happy cusp all-star, young talent, tons of picks by next summer?

Of course, it would be even better if Rondo pulled a Pierce 2007 and sat out. I just don't see that happening.

My biggest fear is Rondo costing us the chance to be really terrible.

If he plays well enough to cost us that chance can't we then move him for good pieces. In other words him playing well improves our asset base by making him worth more. To me it is about asset creation.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

If we were looking for a team to absorb or give us an expiring contract for Wallace, what would it take?

This is where Rondo comes in. After establishing that Rondo is the same player he was before the injury, and after highlighting Wallace at the beginning of next season, we will package Wallace and Rondo for a pick and an expiring contract.

It helps us in 3 big ways:

1.   More cap flexibility
2.   Less talent for tank
3.   Another asset.

We use Rondo to rid Wallace, I’m calling it now.

Using Rondo to jettison Wallace would diminish the return one would normally get by trading an All-Star PG on a reasonable contract.

I think it would be a mistake.

You didn't finish with what you would do to rid Wallace.

Wait. His trade value can only go up as his deal nears expiration.

Ok, and what do you do with that talented Rondo who is helping us win games we want to be losing.

Sit him out as long as possible while he rehabs.

This is all assuming that Ainge's strategy is to tank in 2014. I don't think it is.
