Danny didn't want Doc to go obviously. He sounded real frustrated and disappointed because Doc wasn't even really sure what his intentions were after the season.  They gave him the top coaching contract in the league 2 years ago, yet Doc wanted no part of the plan now.

This was Doc's decision to leave the organization.

Danny did well to get at least a future unprotected first round pick with the situation he was dealt.  I applaud him for that.  He made the most out of it.

From watching the press conference I got the impression that this was more Doc's idea to leave than Danny pushing him out to the Clippers. Not exactly news, but it is a little surprising to me...I really thought he'd either come back to Boston or take a year off and go into TV/Broadcasting.

Then again, he wasn't there to defend/explain himself, so I guess we'll see what he has to say Wednesday. Jackie Mac just posted a new article on Doc that has a few interesting quotes in it too if anyone is interested...

"I always knew when I took the job with Boston that I would love the Celtics,'' said Rivers, in his first public comments since he entered negotiations with the Clippers. "I knew I would love the tradition and the players. But I had no idea how much I would fall in love with the city and the people in it. Honestly, I get emotional thinking about it. I will cherish every single moment I had in Boston.''

He knows what his sudden detractors, who feel betrayed by his actions, are thinking: If he loved it so much, then why did he leave?

"It was just time,'' Rivers answered. "I really don't think it would be fair to get into all of that right now. I made a decision to talk with all of the Boston media following my press conference with the Clippers (on Wednesday), and I will honor that.

"I'll explain it to everyone then. But to say I was dying to get out of Boston, dying to leave the Celtics is just wrong. That's not how it was. That's not how I felt.''

Doc is no different then Lebron chasing a championship in Miami as well as Ray. He is no different than Carmello wanting out of Denver to go to the Knicks.
The going was going to get tougher and Doc saw an easy advantage with Clippers roster and the golf weather much like Ray.
There is no loyalty in sports no one should be surprised by this. Good job to Ainge getting a pick for someone who didn't want to coach here anymore.

JMHO but I think that's all spin.  I think Ainge had this up his sleave the whole time.

1-  his rebuild plan included turning Doc into an on-court asset, only way that works is if Doc's under a long term contract when the rebuild starts. 

2-  Doc wins because IF danny's plan works, he still gets the big contract

3-  Celts get a 20 yr old stud in exchange for a 50 yr old combo guard; shed expensive admin salary in process.
