frankly I do not know where this idea came from that free agents do not want to play in Boston. So for all those who believe this to be true, can you provide evidence, and reasons why free agents do not want to play for Celtics.

My belief is that free agents want two things rings and money. The reason we have struggled to bring in free agents is lack of cap space to be competitive on the free agent market, I do not believe for a minute that free agents have some aversion for playing in Boston.

1. Because the people of Boston (and most of NE) are unfriendly (and many are racist).

2. Because no one likes cold weather.

3. See above.

Boston had the first black player in the NBA and the first black head coach.   So there goes the racist theory out of the window.  There are racists everywhere of every ethic group.

TRUE.  Allen and KG came only because each other came. OOhhhh Danny has burnt soooo many bridges from a Player on. I don't get the Weather problem. It's just cozy there Dec Jan Feb., and it's a swell place to raise kids.

I never said the Celtics organization was racist, or that every person in Boston was racist. But, I've lived in nearly every part of the US, and Boston has the most racist people BY FAR. Numerous NBA players have complained about the Garden's fans being extremely racist. It's because they are.

Geez, people in Boston are so 'Boston-centric'.

Other than NY, LA, Mia, and Chicago, what other city is clearly above Boston as a FA destiniation? I love Boston, it will always be my home, and I spent the first 30 years of my life there, but the people have such an inferiority complex because of NY...the world doesn't revolve around Boston...

But, yes, it's cold - that is truly one of the big reasons.

Apparently you didn't read Bill Russell's story about Boston. The CELTICS had the first black player, and many people in Boston didn't like it. Russell even complained that when he was the #1 guy after Cousy and Heinsohn left, fans suddenly didn't fill the stands. He LOVES the Celtics, but the city itself is different from the organization. Watch NBA TV's special on Bill Russell; it shows Boston's racism back in the day.

This was way back though, I'm sure it's not as bad as before. I'm just not certain that it still isn't one of the more racist cities in America. When I visited the North East or at least close to that region (Philly, NY, Boston, DC, Baltimore), I'd say people in Boston were the least accommodating and you got the vibe they wanted you to leave (outside of areas where universities are located).

are you sure it wasn't just you that they wanted to leave?  ;)

seriously though, I've lived in the northeast all my life and traveled to the different areas of the country for business.  I honestly felt more racism when I was in the south and southwest rather than the northeast (specifically RI/Ma)

Depends on the next coach.  Doc was a big reason why we got KG and Ray in the first place...

Because Boston doesn't have good strip clubs?

I don't know.  I live in the Midwest.  Can someone tell me if that is true about Boston?
