I'd only trade for Deng if I were contending. He is in the prime of his career but I'm not sure if the Wiz can touch the top-3 in the east next year. Paying my SF $14M for a first round exit doesn't seem like smart cap management and the 2014 draft is getting high praise. Might want to stay below the bar again and try to snag DMC if Sacramento bumbles it (high probability).

Giving up the #3 pick just to swap expiring $13-14M contracts seems goofy. The price is just too high unless he's the piece that puts you into contention. Does anyone think that the Wiz are there?

If I were Washington I'd play this year out, let Wall/Beal build chemistry, sign DMC when he hits free agency and look to trade for a scoring wing (or draft one). If they manage to snag Porter in the draft then they hit the rebuild lottery. No need to muck that up with Deng getting starter minutes.

And even if they don't get Porter they'd still be better off trading us the #3 pick for #16 and Jeff Green =) He's probably a better scorer than Deng and he's definitely cheaper and more long-term. Whoa! Trade Rumor!

I'm not sure why the Wiz would do this - other than being allergic to adding another young player. However, if I was to make it about the C's we could do worse than:

#16, Pierce to Chicago
#3, Okafor to Boston
Deng to Charlotte

Pierce goes to a contender and we draft Oladipo or McClemore. Chicago drafts Rose insurance and gets a another high-caliber veteran.

Bradley, Oladipo and Sullinger might not go far together but they'd be some nice assets along with the Clippers pick and whatever else we pick up.

There is "no truth" to a rumored trade sending Luol Deng to the Wizards, a source tells the Washington Post.

ESPN.com reports that the Bulls and Wizards had "exploratory talks" about swapping Deng for the No. 3 pick and Emeka Okafor, but it seems the Bulls made the initial offer and the Wizards weren't interested. Any deal would be contingent upon Deng agreeing to re-sign with Washington, another very high hurdle. We'll let you know if anything substantial emerges from these rumors.
