Bring back Doc and KG. Waive Pierce before the 30th, and resign him at the MLE for 2 years, falling beneath luxury tax threshold and operating the ability to do a Sign and Trade. 

Then use a combination of Lee, Terry, Bass, Melo, and our number 1 pick to execute a S&T for a free agent who wants to be on this team (Big Al, Maybe Milsap, West??)

Or initiate conversations for DeMarcus Cousins using Sullinger or Green as centerpieces.

The team as currently constructed, when healthy, is easily top 4 in the east.  With Rondo and Sullinger, we could've been back in the ECF and we play the Heat very, very well. And if the Heat lose the title, they could be very changed next season.

Maybe the Lakers take KG for Pau Gasol, who is a few years younger. I do believe KG and Kobe have a good relationship outside the court.

KG + Bass = Pau Gasol would be a very interesting deal.

Exactly! Actually, I could make the argument that a team with Gasol could be just as competitive if not better, than a team with KG.

People seem to forget that KG is 37 playing on ankles with bone spurs.

Gasol is a little younger and did have surgery this offseason to repair whatever injury he had, meaning he should be ready to go for training camp.

The only sticking point could be whether the Lakers could accept Bass's contract.

Yeah, I don't think LA does that deal. Too much money owed to Bass for a team that is trying to get it's financial house in order + is shaping up to be a major player in free agency.

Need an expiring contract in place of Bass. Pierce is the only option I can think of. But then you are sending Pierce + KG for Pau Gasol ... not sure what the point in that is.

I still think the LA deal happens. DA is calling there Bluff right now.

The Celtics have very little to lose in this situation. Rondo is under contract and the team is at a crossroads.

The clippers where climbing to the realm of contender but now are stuck trying to keep Chris Paul while a handful of other teams are going to do everything they can to steal him away. In the end it might come down to make the Cs deal or lose Paul. If the lose Paul how will they keep there cash cow Griffin when he is a FA?

I'm not sure you are correct on this. 

Pierce wouldn't be put on waivers,  he has a buyout clause on his current contract at $5 million.  If I'm not mistaken, once his contract is bought out, he's a free agent, and we lose his Bird rights. 

Since the C's would be over the cap, but under the luxury tax threshold, they could only re-sign him at the MLE, Bi-annual, or veterans minimum, but he would have to be bought out before July 1.

We got no choice but to give this one more go with Paul Pierce, KG, and Doc in tow. Hopefully, we will get some production out of Courtney Lee and Jason Terry. Hopefully, Rondo and Sully come back healthy and Fab Melo has some game we can use.

That's not really true.

The Celtics do have another choice, one that I think, ultimately, we will see Danny Ainge go with, more or less.

Let Doc go broadcast if some other team won't give us picks for him.  Find a trade for Pierce, or waive him.  Trade KG (perhaps a straight up swap with the Clippers for Jordan), or let him retire.  Spend the rest of the off-season trying to find somebody willing to give us an expiring contract, or a trade exception, for Terry, Lee or Bass.

Head into next year with a pared down, young roster and focus on developing the younger players.

Boston trades: Pierce, Bass, Crawford (or the Chinese guys)
Boston receives: Pau Gasol, MWP

LAL trades: Pau, MWP
LAL receives: Pierce, Villanueva

Detroit trades: Villanueva
Detroit receives: Bass, Crawford

Why for each team?  Boston adds legitimate size to the frontcourt and a decent back-up SF in MWP.  LA gets a much needed boost of shooting, scoring and playmaking from the 3 spot and an expiring shooter with size at the 4.  They also save over $3 mil in salary which amounts to more like $10 mil when you factor in the new tax rates.  Detroit gets a short-term rotational PF with defensive quickness and a jump shot to slot in between their twin towers, plus a rental of a young bench gunner.

Convince Paul to retire and make him one of Doc's assistiant coaches. Free up other money where possible and try and get Josh Smith to come here.

Wait a little, the trade may be dead, but the Clips might rethink and demand a future 2nd rounder or something like that to give up on the 2nd first rounder.

KG/Doc to the Clips, Pierce to Dallas could still be done.

I don't think we should revisit any clippers deal even if they start to relent.

We need to start mending fences first and foremost. Get Doc and KG to agree to come back together.

Running it back was most certainly not my favorite option, but I think its better than anything else we have right now. With Rondo and Sully coming back, plus whoever we get at 16 we can be competitive again. Some of our guys had down years, with some better play and a lot of luck we could be a dark horse (a D-Wade/Bosh injury would open up the entire Eastern Conference).

I think having KG around to work with Sully some more has to be good for his growth and I'm sure Green can still learn from Pierce.

If it doesn't work out Pierce will probably be pretty valuable at the deadline to a team trying to compete/open up cap space with his giant contract coming off the books.

Does anyone think there is a chance KG waives his NTC at the deadline to play half a season for a contender? A healthy KG down the stretch could be worth a few picks to a team that is close to a ring.

1. Let Doc go back to broadcasting if you can't get anything for him.

2. Trade PP as quickly as possible, that way KG can decide what he is doing.

3. Start collecting assets.

4. Try as hard as possible to dump Terry, Lee and Bass.

See what you have after all of that and make your next plan. If we are lucky enough to get something good back from the trades or had money to get someone like Milsap/Smith than a rebuild could be much quicker.

We run it again for one more year, hopefully this draft produces a big that can produce immediately; Let the vets mentor the kids for one more year;

Then in 2014 we have a large amount of cap space (Pierce retires - US$16Mn, Garnett retires - US$11Mn)

We already have a nice young core; I say we remain patient.
