Do you think there is any chance that Danny could convince KG to waive his no trade clause at the trade deadline to go to a true contender for one last shot at a ring?
If Danny can get Doc back on board for another year then KG will most likely return. Danny can probably get Doc to return by saying he will keep KG and PP for another run and if it doesn't work out we release Doc at the end of the year from his contract so he is free to go elsewhere and avoid a rebuild.
Running it back isn't my favorite option, but with Rondo and Sully back and if guys who had down years can rebound, we could be competitive. With some luck and injuries to other teams (a Wade/Bosh injury really opens up the East), we could be a dark horse candidate.
If it doesn't work out and KG is willing to be traded at the deadline, then we have two huge expiring contracts on players who could seriously put a team over the top for a championship to trade. That probably can net us a few bloated contracts and some picks. We then tank for the rest of the season to get a reasonable lottery pick and start our rebuild in full.
Its all predicated on the idea that KG is willing to waive his NTC, which is iffy. But if he was willing to be a mercenary for half a season there will probably be a few teams very interested: OKC, Golden-State, Clippers (again), Chicago (replace Boozer?), Brooklyn, Spurs. Especially if any of them suffer a serious front court injury (Bogut is always good for a timely injury).
That doesn't seem like too bad an option for me. We get a chance to run KG and PP out there again together and maybe everything falls into place and they make another run at the playoffs. If not we can still get some trade value back for them and start our rebuild.
Any chance KG is up for this?
