The other positive aspect of tanking is cheap ticket prices on StubHub from the fleeing season ticket holders.

Before a game on Christmas against the Pacers, Bird told Chuck Person that he had a present for him. During the game, Bird shot a 3-pointer in front of Person. Immediately after releasing the ball, Bird said to Person, "Merry F!#*ing Christmas!" and then the shot went in.

5% chance at best of getting this guy, I think.
jabari parker isnt such a bad consolation prize

Same odds.
the odds of getting either arent so bad...

A 1 in 10 chance of getting either is not good odds.

Sigh...not sure how emotionally ready I am to watch the Celtics stink for a bunch of years. I've grown used to and been spoiled by watching hall of famers on a nightly basis. Even when the pre-2008 team was a bottom dweller we had Pierce and an eclectic Walker to entertain us. I don't get the feeling that Rondo and Green will create the same kind of underdog enjoyable viewing experience. I've been an 82 game a year hard core C's fan since I was a kid, this is certainly going to test my faith.

This is gonna be ugly...

With our luck in the draft I wouldn't hold your breath for much.

This is a strong draft the strongest in years.  Gut the Team Sit rondo or trade him if we get Bledsoe and tank the season.  Hopefully we get a top pick and the rebuild would be much faster.

The best way to tank is the Spurs' method. Do it for one year by sitting out key player(s) for enough games like they did with Robinson, that you hit the lotto.

This means player development for guys like Fab Melo, T-Will, Shav and Courtney Lee (if he stays), which will help them grow and lose us games. Ideally you keep Green, Rondo, Smoove(?), Sully and Jordan on the roster for the following year but play Sully, Rondo etc sparingly enough.

Getting a top lotto talent, further tweaking the roster as needed and rolling it back with the aforementioned players and we're okay. We would likely have 2 first rounders next season depending on which pick the Clips give up.

I sometimes think that Ainge was trying to tank this past season after Rondo was injured by refusing to bring in Kenyon Martin.  Of course, the Celtics still made the playoffs.

That may be the point where he lost the trust of Doc and KG.

try really hard to trade up and draft Nerlens Noel... so Rondo, Sully and NOel can all skip the season and get healthy.

FYI, I think tanking has always been the plan... hence why Doc wants to bail.  He's already been the "Company man" and intentionally lost games for us in 2007... I don't think he's that interested in going through that again.

I year of serious rebuilding could be quite interesting.

Five or six years of it could grow old...

If tha C's are tanking I kind of agree with LarBrd33 on trading up to get Noel.

But if tanking is really tha plan, my boy Wiggins better be wearing a Celtics snapback on draft night.

It is threads like this that make me glad that nobody on these forums is running our team.

Tanking is not a sound strategy. Yes, it worked for OKC. But who else has it worked out for? Jury is still out on Cleveland (we'll see if they can start making their promised playoff pushes).

Heck, I am also sick of people saying things like, "Oh, the 2014 draft is so strong! We can't lose!!!!"

Have people seriously not learned how unpredictable the draft is from year to year? Seriously, how often do players live up to their potential, and how often are their surprises? The batting average for drafts is very, very low. Not something you want to rely on exclusively. You need good management and good trades to build a contender.

I wish I could find the article TrueHoop did on tanking last year that basically showed what an awful strategy it is.
