What exactly are Lebo's off court issues??

Quote
In September, the NCAA ruled that Ledo could not compete in games for the Friars in 2012-13. That had to do with bouncing around to four high schools in five years and not having enough credits, Ledo explained, to meet academic standards for eligibility.

However, he could practice and work out with the squad during the season.

Thanks PhoSita.  Doesn't sound like a huge deal if that is all.

Depends on *why* he bounced around 4 high schools and didn't get enough credits. It could be a learning disability, a really bad work ethic, running with the wrong crowd, or any of a number of things. Ledo looks like he has the basketball talent, but does he have the non-basketball talents to allow him to make it? Where's the brain doctor when you need him? <-- it's a joke...sorta

interviews with his family show a great insight into why GMs would think twice about picking him early in the draft.  I've mentioned in other threads that this seems like a kid who has had the wrong people in his ear for quite a while now.  Family has come across as "in it for the money and nothing but the money and this kid is going to be our personal guide to easy street:.

I don't know them personally but watching and listening to them talk about him makes me want to soak in disinfectant afterwards.

Ledo looks to be a great talent. I wouldn't mind picking him in the late first to early second round

Just transferring to many schools.  Not really a bad seed character guy who can't stay clear of the police.

It's unfortunate that it happens that way but I guess when your whole family is poor and having trouble in general when you have one child that's a phenom it's easy to think like that.

I think too often we forget that these basketball players come into the league as kids.  Having people in their lives who talk to them and give them good advice and let them know that they have the right to make choices for themselves is huge, but I imagine that many of them don't get that.

Just imagine how differently things might have gone for Antoine Walker if he were surrounded with better people.

Often we talk about players not "surrounding themselves" with the right people.  Well, to a large extent I think it's hard to choose the people you surround yourself with.  Especially when you're talking about family.

I've been saying this all along.  16 may be a bit high, but like Ford said, if he played this year he would be a lock for the lottery.  In a draft year that, to many, is one of the worst in recent memory, you gotta take talent.  In mock drafts, the picks are all over the place.  No one stands out.  Not even the projected lottery picks.  In high school (two years ago) Ledo was THE most dangerous offensive talent of them all.  Now because of academic issues, he misses the season and all of a sudden he's not worth a first rd pick?  Dude can ball and he puts the ball in the bucket.  Something we've been lacking.  I'm telling you, if Rondo remains a Celtic for the foreseeable future, Ledo starting next to him would be a promising backcourt.  Take him Danny!

As far as comparing him to Gerald Green...not even close.  Green has tremendous athleticism, Ledo has talent.  If people want to label him a bonehead, so be it!  Half the league is full of them but most of them don't have his talent.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
They better trade either Lee or Bradley if they're drafting Ledo and are reloading.

Keeping him in the stash would be a waste of a pick if we are going for one more run.
