The Spurs guarded Lebron in Game 1.  Lebron James is one of the strongest players pound for pound in NBA history and is a beast driving to the hole, but if you stay in front of him, and clog the lane, he settles for jump shots.  His three point shot is getting better but its still not superb.  His mid range game has always been suspect, and he isn't great with his back to the basket.

His game outside the paint is good but nowhere near the level of Durant, Dirk, Kobe, or Pierce, or even KG for that matter.

All leonard has to do is stay in front of Lebron and the rest of the spurs defense will converge when needed.  It's not like having to guard someone like Carmelo who is a better offensive weapon than Lebron.  Lebron is the Best swiss army knife ever made he does everything extremely well besides shooting.  Carmelo is the best offesnsive player in the game he can back you down he can shoot the 3 he can post you up and hit the midrange jumper. Lebron literally will run through you to get the basket.

He tried to distribute too much. Bosh even had more shots than him.

The Spurs did a great job shrinking the floor and clogging the paint. However you cant take away the job that Leonard did on him...

Quote
In Game 1, James scored six points on 2-for-8 from the field when Leonard was guarding him. His average shot attempt was 16.4 feet away from the basket. Against all other Spurs, James had 12 points on 5-for-8 shooting, and his average attempt was 8.9 feet away from the basket. USATodaySports

The Spurs as a team defended Lebron greatly, but you cant take away the effect Leonard had on Lebron and on the game because of it.

I was surprised of Lebron's shot selection. Out of the blue, he made several tough jumpshots that were inappropriate. As a result he didn't enter those.
