I'd like to say a special thanks to KG and PP for all of their years of service and dedication to the Celtics. Both of you are truly loyal and great ambassadors of the game.
As a fan my heart is broken, and yet I'm very hopeful for the future. I think if we keep things in perspective we'll see that DA has given the Celtics lots of options in a couple of years. Let us not forget the #1 pick we got from the Clippers for Doc.
In essence we now have:
2 #1's in 2014
2 #1's in 2015
2 #1's in 2016
1 #1 in 2017 (That we can swap with NY should we choose)
2 #1's in 2018
DA will not use all of those number 1's. I'm sure he will be swapping some of them in the future for a package of players and picks. I'm sure we'll stink in 2013/14 and 2014/15 but in the 2015/16 season we'll have plenty of cap room to sign FA having already begun a great rebuilding process.
The big question is, knowing Rondo, will he demand a trade because he doesn't want to be part of the rebuilding process. I'd be shocked if he doesn't. A Rondo trade could actually speed up the rebuild by bringing veteran talent or even more picks. If Rondo wants to go, DA can ask for more expiring contracts for FA or comparable veteran talent.
The future is actually really bright after a couple of years but very painful for the next couple of seasons.
