I know this has been discussed to death but I'm still stuck on it if we bring back KG and PP. First off, why does everyone think its going to cost an arm and a leg to obtain Gortat. He was sidelined with an injury the end of last year and had a very down year. This from basketball reference...

Gortat saw a decrease in points, field goal makes, field goal attempts, field goal percentage, rebounding and PER from a season ago. He put up his lowest true shooting percentage and effective field goal percentage since his rookie year. He put up career lows in win shares per 48 minutes, total rebound percentage and offensive rating.

Phoenix obviously has no real use for these two and would likely move Gortat at least for some building pieces. I don't see why a deal such as Bass/Crawford/16th pick can't get it done or at least be a starting point for Gortat.
*CB Miami Heat*
Kyle Lowry, Dwayne Wade, 13th pick in even numbered rounds, 18th pick in odd numbered rounds.

doesn't seem enough for PHX-- sub in AB and Melo for Crawford and they might think about it

Gortat is on an expiring contract. Given how unhappy he's been this past season with the Suns rebuilding effort, he's got to be gone after this season, right?

The trick is finding what the Suns want, or don't want, in return.

I've hypothesized elsewhere whether a collection of prospects (Melo, the rights to the #16 pick), one-year contracts (Crawford), and unguaranteed contracts (Randolph, White) might meet the Suns' asking price for a guy they are likely to lose. Question is whether another team can/will offer more.

If Memphis still wants Lee then lets make it a three way with their trade exception.

I don't even think they would demand Avery Bradley. I think our pick in the teens plus an expiring young talent like Crawford would be an excellent starting point

They would laugh at you with that kind of offer.  Remember what we got Crawford for?  An injured FA PG and a backup Center.  Gortat has averaged 11 and 8.5 RPG last year, which was down from his 15 and 10 the previous year.

First off, why does everyone think its going to cost an arm and a leg to obtain Gortat.

The asking price for players like Gortat seems to be a young player on a rookie-scale contract and a first-round pick plus filler to match salaries, preferably in the form of expiring contracts.  They would probably want a young player who looks more capable of playing 10-15 mpg game and less like a project than Fab Melo.

The question is what the Suns plans are this off-season.  Will they tank?  They were interested in trading for Josh Smith at the deadline.  They probably need to dump salary to be able to sign Smith outright with cap space.  They could offer Gortat to the Hawks as part of a sign-and-trade.

Does Gortat make us a contender to the point that sticking with KG and Pierce for one more year would be a good move? If not I don't see them shelling out for Gortat when they are trying to replace KG and Pierce with younger players.

If we could get Gortat for non guaranteed contracts/expiring plus a first I would happily run it back, but it's not up to me.

I guess we could make this deal bring back KG and Pierce then hope for the best. If it isn't working by mid season then we could look to deal them then.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I think regardless of KG/Pierce, acquiring Gortat could be a good basketball move: consolidating assets to acquire a starting-caliber center who's just turning 30.

If he's not deemed part of the Rondo/Green nucleus going forward, he's an asset that could be moved in a S&T after this season. (Of course, Phoenix might feel the same way, and simply elect to sit on him another season before moving him in the summer of 2014.)

This would be the smart choice by the Suns.

Gortat would've been great 2-3 years ago, but right now the Celtics need flexibility, yes, but Gortat won't make them contenders. If a three way trade with Memphis getting Lee, Phoenix getting the TPE and the Cs getting Gortat was possible, that would be great for us.

Jordan Crawford could get you a future 2nd rounder if he played well to start next season. Right now... not much. Bradley and Melo could be traded later when their value is higher, also.

And the 16th pick is more valuable long-term than a nice expiring contract in Gortat. Pick Saric and in 2-3 years you'll have a fringe All Star combo forward with PG handles and an improving shooting ability.

I'd rather have healthy Krstic than Gortat.
