Bass showed he can guard Melo, and is a very good team defender , spot up shooter . I have to believe there is some value with him since he only has 2 years left on his deal .
I suggest Bass has the most value to an Eastern Conference team interested in being a contender who is neither the Knicks nor the Heat. I can imagine Pierce/Bass for Boozer and stuff if the Bulls can unload Luol Deng on another team and pick up some assets to send to Boston. I can imagine Pierce/Bass to the Nets if you are willing to take back Gerald Wallace. It's a shame Brooklyn doesn't have more assets because a crazy billionaire Russian owner seems like one of the better formulas for getting a team to overpay. Can you imagine any scenario where the Hawks retain Josh Smith and use their cap space to take on Paul Pierce? What about a Bucks team desperate for credibility?
I don't want to trade Pierce, but if KG retires and Danny trades Pierce, the PP+Bass to Chicago makes sense. The Bulls should send Boozer+Rip Hamilton+the Bobcats 2014 pick(top-10 protected in 2014, top-8 in 2015, unprotected in 2016). The Bulls would save an extra year of Boozer's contract, they get rid of Rip and get a real 6th man in Pierce, starting Gibson and having Bass to back him up. So the pick, who could end having great value, is worth for the opportunity to contend next season.
The Celtics without KG/PP are not even a .500 team, so Pierce has a chance to crush the Heat in 2013-2014, and then hits FA and signs with the Celtics to retire in green.
In a perfect world, also, KG is filing retirement papers after being traded this summer to Orlando. The Magic would send us Turkoglu and their 2014 pick. Another win-win, because they could amnesty Turkoglu, but this way they would save cap space AND real money (10M). KG signs with the Cs as bigman coach, and summer of 2014 we have the band together.
Lee and Terry could be traded, but the Celtics would be smarter if they showcase them next season and try to cash in around the trade deadline or in Draft night.
