I just want to run through a couple of thoughts I had about game 4 that I think all Celtics fans should have.
My first thought waking up this morning was that my next NBA date to look forward to would be the Draft (June 27th). The Celtics don't have any good picks, but with a sweep looking likely (at least a first round exit inevitable), I am resigned to the fact that my favourite players on my favourite team are "past it" and should move on.
Then I thought about 2009 when the biggest cog in our Swiss watch went out and we played exciting ball in an epic series with the Bulls. A year later KG was back and we ended LeBron's career in Cleveland before being a Perkins rebound away from a game 7 win in LA. In 2011 mistakes were made and in 2012 we took LeBron James -- in his year for the ages -- to a game 7.
I love this team. I've gushed about them time and time again and I was devastated when Rondo got injured. When it happened I had hope for the rest of the season, but no high expectations so this series doesn't really surprise me. I would be surprised if Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett don't give us a game to remember tomorrow.
Good things will happen to the Celtics. There was a time I wished the Celtics were relevant again. I am grateful to Danny Ainge for giving me the chance to see these players win a championship and for sticking with them until they couldn't offer anything else.
I think everyone on the roster not named Rajon is expendable, and I do think the Draft will get the ball rolling with it. For now, I want to enjoy these Paul Pierce step-backs and KG fade-aways, because I feel they won't be around much longer.
