Dwight still has the talent and ability to be a franchise star.  Not the main scorer, but you could put a guy like Danny Granger was a few seasons ago next to him and they'd be pretty good.

The Lakers are in a much better place than the Celtics because they already have that franchise guy in place.  The Celtics are going to spend the next 5-10 years trying to get that franchise guy, while the Lakers can immediately begin the process of finding the right guys to put around Dwight.

The first step for them is definitely trading Pau to clear up some space and get players that fit next to Dwight better.

Yeah, it's a darn shame the Celts don't have a great player who probably won't be their main scorer.

   Oh, wait...

Rondo is a very nice player, but in my mind he's a complementary star, not the main piece.  I believe Dwight is the kind of player who can be the main piece, if for no other reason than because he's a dominant center in a league without many good centers.

I know we've had this discussion before and you feel differently, so there's not much point in rehashing our positions on it.

I'll just say that I think it's silly when people act like saying that Rondo is not the guy to build your franchise around is the same as saying he's not very good.

Robert Parish and Kevin McHale were great players.  James Worthy was a great player.  Tony Parker is a very good player.  Manu Ginobili was a great player and is still a very good one.

None of the above wins a title without Bird, Magic, Duncan, etc.

One would assume that if none of them could win a title without a superstar in their prime they wouldn't be able to get to the point where they were winning in the 4th quarter of game 7 of the finals without such a player, which is what Rondo did. How many of those players could arguably be the best player in a series against an opponent like LeBron James? I'd say none of them, but we've seen that from Rondo before. He wasn't a complementary player when we beat the Cavs in 2010 and he wasn't a complementary player last year when we went to the ECF.

Like I've said before, this is just something I know from experience we're going to have to agree to disagree on.  I think you have legitimate reasons to feel the way you do.  I respect your position on Rondo.  I just don't agree with it.

Presuming they re-sign Dwight Howard, the Lakers are in a far better position than we are.  They have the best big in the league... we have a Top 10 PG.

This league revolves around superstars and Dwight Howard is a superstar.

Rondo's shown himself to be capable of leading teams to more playoff success than many of the the superstars who the league revolves around have, especially if you compare them to him at the same age. Labeling him a top 10 point guard doesn't change that fact, just like it doesn't mean that many of those other top 10 players will never lead teams as far as he has.
