I know that this thread will be met by those who will say: If Shav, T-Will, and White are playing extensive minutes, then we are in trouble.  However, I think Doc needs to play them more for the following reasons:

1. Wilcox is great at running the floor and finishing on the break.  He's also good at catching an oop and on put-backs.  That's where it seems to end though.  I feel as though he should be more active on the glass and be a better shot-blocker, but he hasn't shown to be solid in either categeory.  I watched White a lot (including college), and he brings several things that our second unit desperately needs.  He has an excellent mid-range touch, crashes the glass with abandon, and he's actually a decent shot-blocker as well.  He also seems to be a good post-defender too.

2. I would like to see Randolph take some of Bass' minutes, because he rebounds at a very solid rate, isn't afraid to mix it up and bang inside, has a decent mid-range shot, and doesn't try to do more than he's capable of (see Bass' drives into traffic that often end with him getting his shot blocked).

3. Finally, I'd like to see T-Will get some of both Crawford's and Terry's minutes.  I'm not calling for him to get 20 minutes a game, but 10-12 would be ideal.  Williams has the ability to beat people off the bounce and create offense for both himself and others.  He plays more under control than Crawford does, and has showed that he can score when given the opportunity.  His length and athleticism on defense is much-needed, as teams seem to be going at Terry and taking advantage of his 6'2 size.  I think Doc is doing him a disservice by soley making him a backup PG.

Rotation (for last 13 games):

C - Garnett - 30 minutes
PF - Bass - 24 minutes
Sf - Pierce - 32 minutes
SG - Lee - 24 minutes
PG - Bradley - 28 minutes

C - Wilcox - 10 minutes, Randolph/White- 8 minutes
PF - Green - 14 minutes, White/Randolph - 10 minutes
SF - Green - 16 minutes
SG - Crawford - 16 minutes, Terry - 8 minutes
PG - Terry - 10, Williams - 10 minutes

I think that if Randolph and White get minutes, they will come primarily at the expense of Wilcox, with Bass not seeing his minutes go down.  I would actually like to see one of them leapfrog Wilcox in the rotation.

I don't mind their minutes coming mainly at the expense of Wilcox. But I do think in SOME games where we need rebounding, they have to play at least 5 minutes.

And if Lee is out, we need to look at T-Will more. And if JET continues to 'take a poop on the court', he needs those minutes as well.

maybe.

i am not sure exactly how the play of those three merit a significant increase in their minutes, but i would be happy to listen to arguments in favor of that. i just am not sure based upon what i have seen whether they warrant significant minutes, at least not yet.

for t-will, his career shooting is awful - the game the other night is an aberration. i think he will be a good backup at pg. but his shooting remains a major concern, even more than rondo's was a few years ago. but he can play defense and pass. he needs time to learn the boston offense, meaning game time is probably less important than practice time for him.

shav? he has a great HS pedigree but painfully disappointed at duke. he was labeled one of the bigger busts in college basketball history, though i think injuries were a big big factor in his underwhelming performance. nonetheless, i think that if he is healthy, he could be a credible big off the bench. but it is very hard to judge how much his "bust-ocity" is health and how much is simply lack of talent.

white? honestly, i have not seen anything to convince me he is worthy of more minutes. but by the same token, since i havent seen anything i cant really judge.

but back to the basic point of this thread...if the celtics are going no where, then by all means plug them in and let's see what happens. however, if the celtics are positioning themselves for a particular playoff spot, i am not sure these guys provide, right now, anything aside from minutes.

what the celtics need are good minutes from the bench. one game last night is not the basis for a season-influencing decision. watch t-will shooting, he wont have many nights like last night. to expect that is to invest in fool's gold.

these guys could play the celtics out of a game as quickly as they put the celtics into a game last night.

maybe doc should just put one of them in for regular minutes for a few games a time to give them experience and not the team???

  • Another undersized Celtic...
either they aren't getting it on either end of the floor, or the matchups just aren't there. I figured TWill would get a longer look, but I assume there's a reason he's not out there. I also thought White would acclimate and be a decent pick up, like Steimsma. Wishful thinking I guess. Randolph is an absolute scrub, sorry.

The Chinese League All-Stars are not going to save this team.

I don't care whether Randolph, Williams, or White play. The team has to play better.

These guys getting more playing time shouldn't be an issue since KG is in a walking boot and limping. >:(

TWill can have all of Terry's minutes afaic.
Offense sells tickets, Defense wins games, Rebounds win championships.

Advise to Doc Rivers : REST Bass and Terry! We need them fresh for the playoffs!  ;D
