I know this is a bit far fetched, but just because something is far fetched doesn't mean it's impossible. At least that's my motto...

Anyways, do any of you believe there could be an outside chance that we may land any of these two during next off season?

What begins the thought process is that these two players have shown interest in wanting to return/play for the Celtics. I know we don't have cap space, etc., but the theory which allowed Danny Ainge to land Courtney Lee this year, proves that this is a doable proposition.

It's in this potential where I see the addition of Jordan Crawford could prove to be the beginning of Ainge adding some higher echelon impact players this offseason. It gives Ainge a higher incentive and willingness to use Lee and/or Terry in sign and trade proposals.

What's our bargaining power? Smith or Jefferson leaving their respective teams without any return.

What do we have to offer (not all inclusive mind you)?

Terry $5.225 million
Lee $5.225 million
Bass $6.75 million

That's a total of $17.2 million in outgoing salary, enough (or very close) to cover a max level contract by players that should become redundant and expendable in our roster.

Draft picks

Prospects: Bradley and/or Sullinger (you try to keep them of course)

Then we have Jeff Green, but I think you have to keep him to make these trades worthwhile, and for them to make sense for us.

All of the above players are skilled and at reasonable contracts, and after this season, only Green and Lee have anything longer than a 2 year contract, theirs being 3 (Green's being a player option).

I think any of the combinations above is a very good return for any team that would have them, the problem then becomes how much do the teams in question value their cap space. Then the question becomes how much do they value draft picks, and how much Danny Ainge values his draft picks. But I personally think they'd be getting plenty of value and tradeable assets which they could flip to something useful.

And remember, Josh Smith seems to really want to play with Rajon Rondo and has mentioned plenty of times how much he likes Celtics fans and the organization.

Also remember, Al Jefferson was the guy that after he was traded to Minnesota signed an extention to less his market value because he thought to himself he hadn't proved himself yet for a max deal.

So, too much of an irrational wishful thinking on my part? Too far-fetched? Or is this an actual real possibility?

There's certainly the possibility for minor trades that could help us win now, but now interested in swinging for the fences, with the idea that Ainge is still interested in competing beyond this year, and KG is around of course.

Sorry, but the numbers you're using are completely inaccurate.

The hard cap would certainly a concern, but the numbers you're using are just inaccurate.

This year's hard cap is around 74 million, next year should be higher. But your premise still remains true.

There should be plenty of room though.

Hard to say and depends who retires, right?  Maybe they change a contract to bring someone in, perhaps?  Can that be done?

Offensive production wise, al Jeff is still a top 5 guy at his position. He won't want to take a pay cut, nor should he take one.

This means the Cs can't afford him.
