I remember on media day he said he hasn't been able to shoot or even pick up a basketball since his surgery. Well Celtics practice is going on right now in Istanbul and AB is getting shots up.

I kind of forgot all about him, what a luxury already stacked with Avery getting healthy ready to be unleashed. ;D

Good on the kid, hopefully he rehabs as fast as possible. Speaking from first hand experience it takes sometime for shoulder injuries to recover hopefully he recovers fully though. Mush rather have a shoulder problem then knee problems though.

Best of luck AB

TP all you

From what I see, AB wasn't lying, he's progressing faster than expected. AB's injury sounded insanely serious from all the news. Niceeeeee!

THis is good news, he is so competitive it must be killing him to watch.

He was so down to earth and honest in his media interview , about how he was nervous at first that Doc was gong to call his number to go into a game. To now , how comfortable he feels and wants to get in to help his team .

That is amazing turn around in confidence.

This is great news. The Guards will be able to hold the fort until he gets back, but once he comes back to the starting lineup the guard depth will just be through the roof.

I'm as happy about this as the next Celtics fan, and will be more than happy to see him back. But... I don't want him to rush back. Recover correctly, and come back strong as hell. It was only days ago Doc said he was "No way near ready".

This.^^ TP

Even if it takes until December or January. Strengthening those muscles around both shoulders is critical.

AB got those injuries BECAUSE of how he plays. HE fights and runs through picks. The kid is relentless and fearless.
That's why coming back only when 100+% (no such #, I know) is a must.

We have plenty of depth at the 1/2. Take your time AB. Gonna need you in May and June.

We would've beat the cHeat if we had you.

celticinorlando, TP to you too

Poor kid, missing his 2nd training camp in 3 years.  I really hope he doesn't end up like Tony Allen, injured every season and every off-season so there's no opportunity to add new things to his game.  Seemed like Tony was still a rookie his 5th year in the league before he finally got a chance to pull things together.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

My fear is that psychologically Avery will be a rookie again when he returns.  He will absolutely have to prove himself again, and will have to beat out some accomplished players to gain meaningful minutes.  I am not worried about his defense gettng back to form, but remember how long it took for him to get comfortable with the offense and with his shot.

He may jump right back to where he was, but I wouldn't underestimate the misfortune of this injury and the missing of training camp.  He could struggle for a while when he returns.

idk...he beat out Ray Allen last year. Granted JET and Courtney Lee are better than Ray, but still.
