Hi all,

I am 28 years old, have a MS/Ph.D in biology and have the opportunity to teach overseas at an english speaking university for a few years.  I received all necessary background information/documentation regarding this position, i.e. what I will have to do and whatnot,  and obviously a criminal background check is required.

About 10 years ago, I was 18, I was arrested for underage possession of alcohol, as well as simple assault (pushing someone.  Nothing serious...just an 18 year old being stupid. The charges brought against me were eventually dropped and I was never prosecuted, so technically I do not have a criminal record (although these offenses will still appear on my background check). I've had no other criminal infractions since and the only blemish probably associated with me over the last 10 years would be parking/driving (speeding) tickets and that's it.

I am curious if this event, approximately 10 years ago, can truly affect me from obtaining an E2 visa so that I can be eligible to work in a foreign country as a science professor?

Thanks in advance

This is presumably for Korea?

From what I could see, it's a standard FBI check. I don't think this would be a dealbreaker, as long as you make sure you explain the situation thoroughly. Can't be 100% though, I don't think it's a black and white situation.
