Paul Pierce would have considered retiring had Kevin Garnett decided to retire.

Garnett re-signed with the Boston Celtics on a three-year deal.

Barring injury I believe they retire at the same time.

Yeah I'm with you on this 100%. I could have easily seen pierce retiring had Garnett left the game. It would have pierce and a bunch of kids. Now pierce has three more years for us.

He would've considered it until somebody pointed out he had about 32 million reasons to stick around.

Trading him I think might push him to retire.  But KG leaving...he wouldn't've been happy but I think he stays with it.

Yup.  A lot of guys seem to stick around an extra couple of years after their hearts/bodies aren't completely in it any more.  I remember McHale saying once that the last few years were about his kids getting a chance to watch him play.

And often players think about retiring, but get talked into continuing by family/friends/associates and all manner of hangers-on, no doubt.

The thing with veterans at that point is they know the score.  They know whether they're playing for a chip or not.  They know the organization is doing and what their role is within it, whether that's selling tickets as a big name (Dominique in green?) or preaching in the locker room, developing youngsters (Gugliotta in Green) or being a extra body/fill in (Juwan Howard for, amazingly, the past 10 years).

So Paul would surely had considering retiring, but also considered every other option as well, including continuing to pad his legacy as a C in whatever way he could (adding to scoring totals, for example) or being traded somewhere else if he wanted that.

"considering" isn't really newsworthy

KG's a Celtic, in and out; almost as much so as Paul. Together, they immediately just clicked as teammates and each of them gave the other a reason to stay positive toward their team, and prolonged each others careers and passion for the game. It's only the perfect ending to the poem that is the big 3 era, that they ride out into the glorious HOF sunset together.
My pic is now, and will be Fab Melo until he posts his first official NBA dbl-dbl. This may be permanent.
