He's supposed to be our Dwight stopper, supposedly. But I don't really buy into it. He's at least 5 fouls for hack-a-Dwight.

good call. collins' contribution to stopping howard is to whack the heck out of him 6 times and then take a seat. hopefully, or perhaps delusionally, collins MAY simply allow the other celtics big men to get a rest and wear down howard a bit.

howard will be able to score on hollins....unless hollins fouls him and makes howard shoot free throws.

i hope i am wrong, but i dont see collins being a game changer versus howard....or anyone.

Dwight doesn't like physical play. Collins will be valuable to come in and hammer him for 15-20 minutes, lean on him, hard foul him, etc. That's all we need from Collins.

Then let Wilcox and KG run the crap out of him.

As for Bynum, he also does not like physical play - Collins can do the same to him for 15-20 minutes.

One concern I have with the Lakers now though is that MWP and Dwight will certainly cause a lot of havoc in the front court from a physical standpoint. That will free up Gasol, Nash and Kobe...

Was just wondering. Did Danny really acquire Collins to battle D12?

Which brings me to ask, did Danny had in mind that D12-to-LAL was a foregone conclusion from the time he acquired Collins? Did he know all along that this trade will come soon?

The league always seems to find a way to make LA relevant every so often, us not so much.

I am not so sure if it is the league that makes LA relevant or the city itself. I hate to admit it but LA is just more exciting than Boston. Don't get me wrong, I love my city. But if I did not grow up around here and there was no emotional attachment, I can definitely see why LA is a preferred city over Boston, especially for young people in their 20s.

Even if Danny knew this trade was going to happen, wouldn't it make more sense that he got Collins because he knew Bynum was going to Philly?  Why would he pick up a player specifically to combat a move made by a team we play only twice all season?  We have to play Philly a helluva lot more than LA.  We probably will have to get past them to even have  a shot at Miami, and then we have to beat the best team in the league before we have to deal with Dwight and the Lakers.  It just doesn't make sense to me.  Also, Bynum is a much better offensive player and will be a much larger part of his team's offense than Dwight will.

I'm not sure what this thread is even about.

Me either. I think the rest of us have put a great deal of thought answering what seems to have been a rather pointless comment.

I don't know what you consider relevant, but I would say we are about to enter our sixth straight season of relevance.

Another thought: this probably means we'll see a lot of this lineup:

Rondo, Bradley, Pierce, Garnett, Collins
against
Nash, Kobe, MWP, Gasol, Howard

How does KG match up against Gasol?
I believe most would say KG has had the advantage in their career matchup, don't have the stats handy.

Every time we meet them, KG needs to take on Gasol full time defensively. Gasol is their tall man scorer. Gasol's efficiency is always compromised if he is tasked to score, rebound and defend. D12 will provide most of the rebounding and defending. Gasol will be their 2nd in line for the same which will make him more efficient; thus, the need for KG to concentrate on and lockdown defend him. Let the other bigs (Wilcox, Bass, Collins, Jared and Fab) do the neutralizing against D12.
