Yes, one of the most dramatic stories of olde days was that the Lakers went on an unprecedented 33 game winning streak and finished the season with a title in '72, all after Elgin Baylor (possibly one of the best swingman scorers of his generation), called it quits.
I think our current squad's limitation was carrying the baggage of a starting shooting guard, whose game was too easy to predict and control by opposing teams. Thus, the big three plus Rondo was never this explosive scoring threat, which a three pronged offensive should have had against most teams in the league.
I suspect that when our explosive guard rotation comes out this year, we're in effect, like that Laker's team of '72 where Chamberlain, like KG, was a passing center who stuck with defense, moving the ball, and locking down the boards, instead of trying to simply carry the game like he did when he was with Philly. The end result will be that our guards will wear out opponents and our classic 2nd half woes will be a thing of the past.
