This is pure speculation on my part.  Why don't the 76ers go after Dwight Howard  Between Andre Iguodala, Moe Harkless, Arnett Moultrie, Evan Turner, and Thaddeus Young you have a LOT of players that play 3 or 4 and certainly no need for all of them.  Assume you keep Jrue, and you have to keep Lavoy Allen and Spencer Hawes since they just signed (and let's assume Lou Williams too for that matter).  Trade Iguodala, either Harkless or Moultrie, either Turner or Young, and some picks to the Magic for Howard, and maybe take some bad contracts on (dont know if numbers match up and not going to spend the time to do it).  Seems like a team of Jrue, Lou, Turkoglu, Lavoy Allen and Dwight Howard, with either Harkless or Moultrie and either Turner or Young off the bench, as well as Hawes, would be a pretty solid team, Dwight would be the main #1 guy, and it's a good young team with a solid coach.  Also have Nick Young on the team too now.  Philly is the type of city that players who play there love, so you sell Dwight on that.  Lots of star power there between Vick, Ryan Howard, etc.

If this Iguodala for Calderon, Derozan, and Davis deal is also a legit possibility, Orlando could go for those pieces instead of Iggy if they prefer.  I don't know, just seems like Philly should get involved.  They have tons of interchangeable wings and arent going to go anywhere unless they make a big trade using those accumulated assets, IMO.

I don't think:

(1) That is an attractive enough package for Orlando to bite on it.
(2) That the Sixers post-trade would have enough talent left on their roster to convince Dwight Howard to stay. I'd expect him to leave as a free agent next summer if sent there.

Because Dwight has no interest in playing there and would leave immediately.

Celtics - Hall of Famers - KG, Pierce, Allen, maybe Rondo

HEAT - Hall of Famers - James, Wade, maybe Bosh

Lakers - Hall of Famers - Kobe, Nash, Gasol (international)

Thunder - Hall of Famers - Durant, maybe Westbrook

Spurs - Hall of Famers - Duncan, Ginobili (international), maybe Parker

76ers - Hall of Famers - None

Jrue Holliday, Nick Young, Evan Turner, Lavoy Allen, Dwight Howard with Lou Williams, Spencer Hawes, and Moe Harkless off the bench is a pretty formidable team potentially.  Also have the assets still to trade for that other star.  I am sure you could work something out with Atlanta for Josh Smith or another team for a shooter if necessary.

Agree may not be attractive enough for Orlando to bite, but I do think its better than what Brooklyn is offering.

Not enough top tier talent to convince Dwight Howard to stay.

No other All-Star caliber player on the roster. Nevermind an All-NBA level player.

-3 out of the 5 guys in that starting lineup wouldn't start for a legit contender
-Moe Harkless is a rookie who we (and Dwight) has never seen play an NBA minute
-Spencer is a Center who can't play Power Forward and thus will play almost 0 minutes as Dwight's backup
-Lou Williams is a free agent.

Even in a best case scenario, this team is a 6 seed.  Dwight is leaving a 6 seed.

Every Dwight proposal should feature him joining a team that has at least 1 potential Hall of Famer.  This includes Deron Williams (potential), Dirk Nowitzki (in), and Kobe Bryant (in).  No Hall of Famers, no Dwight.

Fair enough.  If I was Philly I'd consider making some trades though, they have a lot of decent assets but are going nowhere with them.

  • It's what I do! It's who I am!
That's just too much of a risk for Philly to take.

Perhaps the sixers read my post?  All of you were right though...apparently sixers were after howard but howard had no desife so they went after bynum instead.  Good move for sixers.
