I hardly think free agents don't want to come to Boston due to its supposedly racist reputation. I doubt most players of this era are even aware that Boston was ever considered a racist city.

It's a cold weather city, not known for its nightlife and we have an aging core without a clear future once KG and Pierce are gone. I think those are the three primary factors deterring FAs.

Yep.

It takes a rare combination of talent, hard work, preparedness, luck, and opportunism to win an NBA title. If perennial ECF appearances are viewed as mediocrity, sign me up.

Look guys, I'm glad we got KG back and we are going to be competitive next year but lets think about this. We pushed the Heat to 7 games, they had no Bosh for the first 5 games, We didnt have to deal with Derrick Rose and Chicago. We may be delaying the inevitable, we should of blown it up. The Nets are going to get Dwight, and you can bet that team or Chicago is in the ECF with Miami next year. We should of just sucked it up, gutted the team and rebuilt around Rondo. We want championships and we need good players to get championships, you get good players through the draft. Most Free Agents dont want to come to Boston, due to it's "racist" reputation.

Anyway I think Danny is driving us to mediocrity.

 Kevin Garnett, Shaquille O'Neal, Jason Terry, Jeff Green, Mickael Pietrus, Brandon Bass, Paul Pierce, Rajon Rondo, and Rasheed Wallace are a few recent examples of players who came to Boston and/or decided to stay in Boston despite its "racist reputation."

I think that old stereotype doesn't have as much truth to it as it may once have.

We could be heading to 20 years of mediocrity. Who knows? That's life in sports unless you have an up and coming dominant player.

I'm not sure why making the team bad is better than mediocrity.

We are unless Rondo can score with confidence and regularity. If he can average >15. With that I think we're better but not in the top 5 teams.

The reason why young players don't want to come here is because Boston isn't a flashy city like NY,LA,or...Miami... Its a hard nose city were you need to be tough to play in.

And lets face it, most players aren't tough, they just play tough on TV...

I wasn't trashing the team.  I think we will be a competitive team that can win a championship this season.

THIS season.

I wasn't saying blow it up, I was saying "offering multi year deals to Ray/KG seem like business".  I'd rather be an 8 seed this year, get Josh Smith next season, and have a trio of Smith/Rondo/Bradley to compete with for 10 years than lose to the Heat, and be a struggling 8 seed and become the Atlanta Hawks for a couple years.

Granted, nothing is given and the Mavericks looked posed to grab Dwight and DWill and that completely blew up in their face, but taking a (safe) shot at greatness is better than settling for mediocrity.

We'll be underdogs and semi-competitive to the Heat this season in the East and then be mediocre for 2 seasons.  Unless Wade goes completely out for the playoffs/our series, there is no way we can honestly say we have more than a 40% shot at beating the Heat.
