Why did Doc tell us that Ray requested relegation to bench?

I haven't heard any confirmation on this, so let's not assume it was offered. I doubt it was.

That's not what was said. Last I saw was some cryptic "may be ready to offer" or something like that. The only thing I've seen somewhat confirmed is a 2 year, 12 million offer. Nothing more. Ray was clearly looking for a 3 year deal.

Yeah, a 3 year deal where he demanded 3x what Miami could give him.

Which I think was absurd from him to demand it of us, though I think he's worth that type of deal. Just not for us and our current make-up.

I would've loved to have seen rumors of a 3-year 15-18 million offer, and see what Ray would do with it. I think that would have been fair for everyone.

In all, I don't think the Celtics really pushed that hard to keep Ray here, but that's my opinion, and I think Ray on the other hand was asking too much of us to remain. And his move to accept the Heat deal of 3 years for 9 million is complete horsecrap in my opinion.

Agreed I think Danny's efforts were as much about keeping him from Miami as bringing him back, which in turn why his asking price for the Celtics was preposterous, though I think from a respect standpoint how did EVERYBODY we courted get offered 3+ years (including Terry) except Ray, not good from a perception standpoint.  I think the margin of error was small for resigning Ray and not everything was done right by either party (Celtics or Ray).  I hate that he joined the Heat and think if he'd visited the Clippers before Jamal Crawford that's where he'd have signed.  His big brother does live in Florida though...so who knows? They'll be better with him next year but for the offensive direction the Celts are headed another player (Courtney Lee, etc) might be a better fit and the Celtics will be stronger if we get a freakin center!!

No, from what I remember he was WILLING to if need be... we needed it and Doc made the change (Doc actually wanted to do it the season before). I think the only reason Doc didn't do it sooner, Ray's ego... then when Ray said publicly that he would be fine with it (after that 10-1 stretch when he came back), Doc decided that "maybe" he could handle it (again something he wanted to do long ago). Turns out, he couldn't.  Doc's gut was right the previous season and he didn't make the switch, last season he did it and it backfired this off-season FA.

Some people put up a front for a good public reputation but are different behind closed doors, from what Doc has said makes Ray look just like that... his quotes show the Ray we don't get to interact with. What Doc said is scathing to me but he also said it won't change their friendship... hmm, I don't know about that after what Doc has said (the jealousy stuff).

I dont know but i think he will come off the bench with the cheat....
