Wow!  Nash @ 10m per for 3 years?  Geez, I know he's still good on offense, but I could get by him on defense.

Silly Knicks

On paper the Knicks look scary next year if this happens. And they're talking to shard.

How much better does this really make the Knicks, Nash, Stoudamire, Anthony, Chandler and no 5th starter or bench.

I agree. Also, through his career Nash has shown that he can make those around him better if the buy into the whole team thing( a lot like Rondo).  I don't know if that will work with selfish me-first players like Anthony and Stoudamire.

I think it's proven that Nash and amare will be fine together lol.

I don't think this is really that good of a deal for the Knicks.  Nash is still a good, but not great player.  Letting Shumpert and Lin go takes away a lot of youth and energy.  I don't think this puts them over the top to be a contender this year, but they lose valuable young players.  I guess they didn't have an option to keep Lin if the reported offer is true.

I think Nash might have a bit more built in respect from Melo, so it might be a bit longer before Melo starts complaining, esp if they get off to a good start.

Yes and no.  Yes they will play well together, but didn't they have some problems toward the end of their time together?  I may be wrong.  Also, it's mostly Melo that I was thinking about.

There will be a fair bit of diminished returns from both Melo and Nash. Both will see less of the ball than each player is ideally suited for.

And then there is the Amare-Tyson spacing problems + the complete lack of any wing player on the roster outside of Carmelo Anthony + a suspect bench + a mediocre head coach in Mike Woodson. Lot of issues still in New York.

Strange decision.

I don't understand Phoenix taking back that salary to make this sign and trade. They need more incentive for it to be worthwhile for them.

If Phoenix doesn't land a major FA, like if NO matches their offer to Gordon, they're going to need some more payroll to get to the salary minimum.  If they can get Shumpert, $3m and a bunch of small expiring contracts, like Douglas and Balkman, it's only costing them around $3m of back of the bench salary to acquire a keeper like Shumpert.

Not to mention no real young chips to build on without Fields, Shump and Lin.

Ah, the beauty of the NY market.

Sign big name players for bloated contracts because it makes you money, not because it's the best move for the team.

Completely moronic to let Shumpert go if that's true.

Nash fits well with Amare, but Amare and Chandler don't fit well together, and Melo doesn't fit well with either Nash or Amare.

EIther Nash/Amare or Chandler/Melo.  But not both.

Not to mention that would kill their bench and what was their greatest strength a year or so ago.

Too many guards, too many need big name frauds, and not enough defense.

This is a classic Jim Dolan-Isiah Thomas-NYK move:

Bring in flashy name and overpay (Nash.)

Trade the one young, cheap guy on their roster who every team in the NBA would want (Shumpert.)

Let the complementary players that made your group a better TEAM walk away (Lin, Fields.)

Raise ticket prices.

Be a sixth seed.

Do not seriously compete for a title.

Rinse/Repeat
