  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Terry or Hinrich.
I'd offer Hinrich more than MLE, particularly if Ray walks.
I wonder how much Bulls offered.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

I'd like to see Delonte West brought back to backup Rondo

I think it would be hard to offer him more than the MLE and still be able to adequately fill out our roster.

I thought the plan was to sign our own free agents which would allow us to exceed the $62 mil. cap, but stay under the $74 mil. apron and then still have the MLE and the Bi-Annual exception to sign other free agents.

Can you combine the MLE and the BAE to spend on one guy?

Thanks.  I didn't really think so.

Maybe.

First, I think we're all spoiled by Rondo.  Every backup we've ever had behind him people have complained about, saying that the offense stalls and that the backup doesn't pass/dribble/penetrate as well as Rondo.  That complaint, however, could be made about every other PG in the league.

Furthermore, the problem is exacerbated by the fact that Rondo is going to play at least 36-38 minutes per game in the regular season and more in the playoffs.  So if you're a free agent PG, Boston isn't exactly an ideal destination.

Obviously someone like Terry would be great.  So we don't need to debate that.  However, if that doesn't happen, I think the best option would be to get Avery Bradley to swing to the PG spot when Rondo is out of the game.

Is he the purest of PGs?  No.  However, few backup PGs are.  But he's obviously very talented and would be highly disruptive to the other team's offense, particularly if he was guarding weaker backup PGs.

Furthermore, it's the best use of the team's resources assuming Ray and Green come back.  If Ray and Green come back there's going to be a minutes crunch at the 2/3 spot.  Green and Pierce will more than eat up all the 3 minutes, likely necessitating Green play some 4 and perhaps even Pierce playing some 2.  Thus, Ray and Bradley will be left with splitting the 2 minutes (or even less).  Playing Bradley at the 1 spot for 10-12 minutes a game creates more PT for our most talented players and it also means 10-12 more minutes of Bradley, Ray, or Green rather than some mediocre backup PG who likely won't be much better at creating plays that Bradley and will certainly be far worse in every other area.
