I say sign and trade him for Mayo. Still a lot of upside to Mayo and nobody is better at developing young talent than Doc. The way we drafted suggests we're willing to include Bass in some type of trade, especially since we can replace him in free agency for much less money. I like Bass, but 8 million a year for an undersized power forward, 6'8" for the record, who starts and only gets 6 rebounds a game on a team already devoid of rebounding is not logical. Big baby was expendable and the same goes for Bass.

My thoughts are that Blakely is a hack, and this is a made up rumor.

Id say a "recycled" rumor.
Celtics fan for life.

I have a limited knowledge of the cap system, but this hypothetical trade is outright impossible, right? And even if its possible its a waste of time cuz the Celtics could just sign Mayo?

Well, it is impossible before July 11th (well, they can discuss it starting Sunday).  And it would make sense, because it would allow the C's, who have less use for Bass now that they have Sullinger, to stay over the cap, and not renounce their free agents, giving them a little more flexibility.

But I just don't think Blakely actually has any inside information, he is just regurgitating (and twisting) reports from guys with actual sources.

How would this sign and trade "allow the Cs to stay over the cap."  They have approx. $30 mil in salaries committed for next year about about $25mil in space.

We are actually over the cap right now because of the cap holds on our free agents. The cap holds remain until the players sign (with us or elsewhere) or are renounced.
