Makes no sense to me that Ainge made a promise at #21. We all know that Danny is very active on trade day. Making a promise here takes away all his leverage to make deals. What if a player he loves is slipping? He cannot package his two picks to move up. Unless he has White rated as a the 7th best player after the Big 6 of Davis, Robinson, Beal, MKG, Barnes, and Drummond it makes no sense to me. This is why promises are not made this low. We all know the top 6 players isn't sliding to us at #21 but every player from #7 on has the potential to slide. Why handcuff yourself from moving up?

Only way promise was made is if there is a deal in place to select for another team. With word that Atlanta at #23 is interested in White, It makes sense that a team would want to get ahead of them and Cs are the team right in front.

My best guess is that either no promise was made or this pick is part of a more complicated trade with one of the following teams that White has worked out for (Golden State, Indiana, Miami, Houston).

* Golden State- They are looking to trade out of #7. They want a SF but Barnes and MKG will be gone and they were disappointed with Perry & Terrence Jones. White would make sense for them but how do you agree to pick for the Cs not knowing if White will be available when the Cs pick at 21?

* Indiana- Larry Bird DA connection makes this interesting. Indiana has the #26 pick so they need to get ahead of Atlanta. This is the trade that looks possible. Don't know what we'll get in return though.

* Miami- No way Cs help them out unless DA knows he is getting the better end of the deal.

* Houston- This one's also interesting because of DA's relationship with McHale. Again doesn't make sense to have the promise made by the team picking lower in a potential deal of draft picks.

everything is rumor until draft day. as danny said, there are draft day contingencies that go into play, theres no concrete plan on who we will have because a trade or something can happen on draft day from unexpected rises, falls, and picks.

I hope so, as I don't get all the Royce-love here.

Here's what DraftExpress has to say:

Royce White has the unfortunate distinction of ranking dead last among forward prospects with 0.806 PPP. His poor overall efficiency is due heavily to his likewise last-ranked turnover percentage, as he turns the ball over on a whopping 23.5% of all possessions, which isn't even close to the second worst player at 18.1%. White sees 25% of his possessions come in isolations, which is the highest of everyone, and that certainly doesn't help his turnover rate much. Still, his PPP on both isolations and post ups rank towards the bottom of the pack, and his 0.683 PPS on jumpers ranks dead last. White's oversized role and high portion of shots coming in isolations and post-ups don't help his efficiency much, but his 16 possessions per game was only fifth highest of the 14 players ranked, so it's hard to excuse his efficiencies being as low as they are across the board.

My gut feeling is that the Royce White promise is a ploy.

If ATL or another team after 22 wants White and  are worried that the Celtics will take him they are now forced to trade up either with the Cs or before the Cs. If they trade ahead of the Cs then another prospect gets pushed down. Trade with the Cs and the celtics are able to gather more assets. Either way this raises the value of the 21st pick.

Why handcuff yourself from moving up?

If Ainge makes such a deal, it is because he believes White is worth being drafted somewhere earlier and he is trying to make sure White slides down by preventing a team from falling in love with White because of a great workout.

It makes sense if Ainge is a good evaluator of talent.

Craziest draft I have seen I. A while. After 6 its going to be random imo.  What's sure so far for me is that Jeff Taylor should be there when we pick. Then who k ows. Could be Perry , could be white, harkleess. Even Danny probably doesnt know
