If you acknowledge that there are officials who have a tendency to throw out certain players, and you don't acknowledge that they made the right call each and every time to the best of their abilities, impartially, you're implicitly acknowledging a bias on the part of the referees and calling the whole system's integrity into question.

IP, I'm trying to figure out if that statement is serious.  It's brilliant either way.

Stern answered the question by unconditionally singling out Donaghy and not acknowledging any pretence of the appearance of inpropriety.   In spite of the fact that anybody with a basic knowledge of basketball can see overtly biased and selective officiating.

haha, completely serious, but incredibly disorganized.

That's how my head-movies usually are anyways.

For those who aren't familiar with just the name, I've posted both a picture as well as a video of Ed Malloy below

Honestly though, separated at birth?

Thanks for the picture... I couldnt put my name on the face, until i saw this and my reaction was not appropriate for this website.

I'm sorry....But it's physically impossible for Malloy to be as bad an official as Astley is an "artist".

So looks like another long night. Hope we show up better prepared. So sad how I'm as familiar with NBA referee names and histories as I am with players. This doesn't happen in any other sport.
Tommy: He's got a line about me. Tell him the line.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.

I suppose you're right. Malloy knows the rules (and so do I)

always such a joy to see scott foster, the man who must have some incredible dirt on David Stern (or vice versa) to pretend the thousands of txt's and one minute phone calls before games and at halftime were "talking bout guy stuff!" with Timmy D.

Amazing to me that ESPN and others buy that guy wasen't as crooked as timmy just cause david stern says so.

Here are some details for those that don't know.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,381842,00.html

Quote
The records show Donaghy placed 134 calls to referee Scott Foster — more than the 126 calls Donaghy made to his bookie — between October 2006 and April 2007, the period during which he has confessed to either betting on games or passing on game information to gamblers. The majority of the phone calls lasted no more than two minutes and occurred prior to and after games Donaghy officiated and on which he admits wagering.

With the exception of 150 calls Donaghy placed to Thomas Martino, to whom he says he provided “picks” to win games and who was the middleman between the disgraced referee and a bookie named James Battista, the ex-ref phoned no one more than he called Foster. During this period, the most calls Donaghy made to any other referee were 13.

Sadly, Stern has handled this situation brilliantly...And the only way he could handle it.  By essentially lampooning Donaghy as a rogue and downplaying extremely everything else he maintains what little credibility the officiating still has in the eye of the casual fan.
