21 and 22 not bad. But we have only 6 player on contract. I want at least two(if possible three) pick more.

This is not easy but there are some teams that have too many players already.  For example Denver. They have already 14 players(I think McGee will leave, so we can say 13 players) and they have one 1st round and two 2nd round picks. They have already rebuilt team and they don't want any young player i guess. Maybe we could trade our future pick for their currently picks. If possible 1st round pick would be better for us, if not, two 2nd round picks wouldn't be so bad. They don't need that. Denver is the best option for Boston to exchange draft picks.

There are many teams in same situations. But for 1st round pick, making deal is not easy. Bulls and Miami have full rotations but i think Bulls use 1st round pick for another international player and Miami use for another big man. Kings have 13 players already but their 1st round pick is more valuable. They wouldn't give up that for our future 1st round pick I guess.

So Denver seems best chance for us to get another 1st round pick. We push that chance i hope.

For second round, we have more options. Denver and Kings are still best options. Wolves and Buck are the other options.  Wolves have 13 players already. Bucks 12.

We have already two 1st round and one 2nd round picks. If we get another three picks(one 1st round and two 2nd round would be perfect for me) we have a chance to choose some international players. Like i said at least two 2nd round picks would be good for us.

My early short list for 1st round;

Austin Rivers    SG
Jared Sullinger PFC
Arnett Moultrie PFC
Meyers Leonard    C
Terrence Ross    SG
Tony Wroten    PSG
Moe Harkless    SF
Andrew Nicholson PF
Royce White   SPF
Marquis Teague   PG
Doron Lamb   SG

(There are some players that we don't need. But useful for trade on draft. For example Teague.  Many team want PG for next year. Blazers, Jazz, Raptors, Suns, Hornets, Mavs I guess. If these teams choose big man maybe we can use Teague to trade with their big man)

2nd round;

Jae Crowder   SF
Furkan Aldemir   PFC
Scott Machado   PG
Tyshawn Taylor   PG
Kyle O'Quinn   PFC
Jared Cunningham SG
Drew Gordon   PF
Henry Sims   PFC

You have to keep both picks.

If you want to sacrifice the 2nd rounder and a million dollars and move the 21st pick for say the 15th-18th because you see a guy falling that you desire and never thought he would be there, then do it.

Next year this team is going to have a lot of the same players as this year many because they worked so well as a team, because a couple of the young players developed into quality role players and because the free agent market is just not very good.

So I expect KG, Pierce, Rondo, Bradley, Johnson, Stiemsma, Moore, Pietrus, Pavlovic, Allen, Green, Bass, and maybe Wilcox back. That leaves spots for two players. Two first round players.

So expect a center whether its Myers Leonard, Fab Melo, Tyler Zeller or Festus Ezeli I can't say for sure but one will be a Celtic and expect a PF/SF. Maybe a John Henson or Draymond Green or Terrence Jones.

I agree, Nick, although I'd certainly unload Johnson or Moore to make room for any kind of veteran acquisitions that could strengthen the bench.

Four first and second year players is MORE than enough, the absolute maximum I have any interest in carrying unless we're willing to admit that we're bombing the franchise back to expansion team capability. Seven would be insane.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

It may take that move up to get either Leonard or Moultrie, both of whom I think are worthy.  Then I think there'll still be a young, high-potential wing available at 23.

The C's don't need three rookies to go along with the 2nd-year Boilermakers and all the other guys people talk about bringing back--KG, Green, Pietrus, Stiemer, Wilcox, Williams, Hollins, Bass. For example, they've probably only room for four of those six bigs to return.  I also wouldn't mind bringing Sasha back.

Thing is, I consider Stiemsma more than a rookie this year because of his years playing pro ball after college. He's mature and he's grasped what it takes to be a pro. His growing pains are over because he knows his role and plays it well. He'll never be a starter and he knows that.

So I am okay with 2 first rounder and the Purdue duo on the team next year because I think with

Rondo/Bradley
Bradley/Allen/Pietrus
Pierce/Green/Pavlovic
Bass/Wilcox
KG/Stiemsma

The 11 man rotation is set and 2 of the rookies and second year players can go to the D-League and play and 2 can stay with the club and get quality practice time and some garbage time minutes.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
For the love of god what is with people wanting to move BOTH picks to try and snag Austin Rivers!? He's one inch taller than Avery Bradley.
We have our 2 guard, he's excellent and only getting better!
Get the best players available, hopefully they're bigs.
If not, we will get some decent bigs in free agency in the next 2 years.

Just a thought, My Man.

I mean...do you or anyone else here REALLY believe that anyone available at 21 or 22 will be an immediate impact for us?

I could be wrong....but we all know how crafty Danny can be. Don't be heartbroken if he moves these picks.

Just my thoughts.

I won't be heartbroken, whatever Danny decides to do, I'll be fine with. He's the one who knows these kids like the back of his hand. He's got his eye on about 5-7 kids and they're on his short list in a ranking. Whoever of them are available he's going with.
I just don't see the particular value in getting rid of both picks for Austin Rivers. I'd give up those 2 picks no problem for the right player, but personally I can't see Rivers being worth it. I'm not a GM though and I hope he proves me dead wrong if it does come to it.
I'm just excited to see what happens, it's going to be a huge stepping stone to our future. We could get another Rondo, Bradley, Perk, Tony Allen....
100% faith in Danny and the team.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.
