After seeing this, i totally understand why Memphis didnt want to trade O.J for Ray.
Quote
It's my understanding that this proposed deal didn't have much shelf life because of the Celtics' asking price. Boston apparently wanted Mayo ($5.6 million), Mike Conley ($6.5 million), Dante Cunningham ($2 million) and rookie Josh Selby ($550,000) in a large transaction that included draft picks. It's unclear who the Celtics would have sent the Griz in addition to Allen ($10 million) to satisfy the nearly $15 million swap in salaries. Bottom line is that Grizzlies didn't want to part with so many assets (for a one-season rental) as was the case in 2009 when they entered discussions to acquire then-Phoenix forward Amar'e Stoudemire. Remember when the Griz balked at sending the Suns Conley, Rudy Gay and Hakim Warrick in a large package to acquire Stoudemire?
Danny must be crazy no one would offer that much for renting Ray for half a year. But im also surprised that Danny wanted Josh Selby..

a) Seems kinda silly to start a new thread just to mention this when there is an active thread discussing this
b) It's lazy to fail to cite your source.  If you won't link to it, then at least tell us where.

What are you, the blog police? You could have just asked him to cite the source rather than call him lazy. I am sure he just forgot...

It's taken from Ronald Tillery of the Memphis Commercial Appeal

Not sure who their pg would've been in that proposed offer, unless we were offering Bradley on our side of the deal. Mayo and the pick with filler minus Conley should've gotten it done. But Memphis could've made a possible title run in the west with his addition. Tony Allen is their three-point threat as of now. And Conley on occasion likes to tee one up.

hahahahaha WOW.  I'm glad we didn't make the deal...but I hate that Ray was told about it.  He's been completely outkasted from this team

I wonder if this trade was attempted/proposed in combo with a deal involving Rondo for a big guy, such as Gasol

Conley
Mayo
Pierce
KG
Gasol

Something like that.

That sounds like one of the crazy trade idea threads that people make, [dang]. Worse, it's one of those deals that's absolutely ridiculous, as not only would the asking price be too high for the Grizzlies, but the trade wouldn't do much to help the Celtics. The Celtics would have been better off looking at a big man, as Mayo wouldn't have been much better than a Bradley/Pietrus duo, and Conley would only average 10 minutes a game in the playoffs.
