This is all a roundabout way to get to the point, which is that in the history of the NBA, some players are so good they can lift a team to a title almost immediately. Several all-time greats have done it. Jordan did not.
All of those other all time greats won their titles with other HOFers.  Jordan did as well, he just didn't have that HOFer on his team immediately like all of the other all time greats.  Teams win titles.  If your teammates aren't any good you aren't going to win a title no matter how good you are.

See: James, LeBron Raymone.

  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.
There's another aspect in this. Like Magic, Bird, Tim Duncan, etc, Bill Russell achieved greatness so early in his career. The thing that sets him aside from the other players is that he maintained that winning 11/13 times in his career.

Jordan was a better basketball player.

Only in terms of $ and ratings.

For everything else, Russell>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> MJ (I think I forgot some >>>).

Russell was a game changer in more ways (they changed the rules because of him in college) than Jordan. Jordan "only" changed the marketing standards, and of course the "star calls", a.k.a. "Jordan Rules". Not the same.

Russell was a superstar from his rookie year, but he also was able to win, unlike MJ.

Russell had to go against elite almost every night, unlike MJ.

Russell played against a Superman Wilt Chamberlain and still was able to beat him. MJ was the top player (jordan rules included) but he might have had a hard time against someone like Len Bias. Sadly, we'll never know, but with healthy Bias and Reggie Lewis the Bulls legacy would be very different.

Russell is brilliant, knowledgeable, his personality is fascinating. MJ is a moron.

Russell is Celtics Pride. MJ is hero ball, me-first, ESPN and Nike.

Still not convinced?

Injuries have also helped improve Jordan's chances at a championship. The passing of Lewis was one, and another big injury was Ralph Sampson - a 7'4 center that averaged about 22 PPG as a rookie. This giant was picked a year before Olajuwon - If they were both healthy, Jordan would not have been able to stop 2 HOF caliber centers from taking away at least 1 or 2 of the 6 he won.

So Mr.Jordan, can you give a reason why you believe you're better than Russell?
