All this talk about KG taking the veteran's minimum (or substantially less than the $20+mil he's making now) to come back next season is insane. This seems to be part of everyone's "rebuilding" plan. Wishful thinking at its finest.

Given his skillset and pedigree, he is still worth $10-12 million per year on a short contract (1-2 years). I would take him back at this number easily. It could even go higher as teams with cap space that need "one more piece" will be lining up.

His numbers have held pretty steady over the last 2-3 years. Offering him the vet's minimum would be a slap in the face and would punch his ticket out of here quickly.

I think he can still get a one year $10-12 million dollar deal....but not with a contendor.  It's really going to be up to KG (like all FA's) to prioritize.  It's basically the same situation for Ray.  NJ will pursue them both and will over-pay them both if that's really how they want to end their careers...or they can decide to re-sign in Boston with their teammates or choose to sign with a real contendor for similar money

Agreed.  Most actual contenders would give him 10 mil if they could afford it, but usually those guys can't.  If he's going to go to a contender it will have to be for the MLE, but with the new CBA I am not sure if any teams will be able to give him that either.
do it

he's getting 20 mill this season, well beyond what he is worth.
we deserve a discount next year.

That's why Boston has a good shot to lock him up for another year or two, given their cap situation. They could outbid just about any contender.

He's definitely worth it on a short term contract.  The Celtics don't really have a choice but to possible bring him back on a short term deal and then resign Jeff Green.  The free agent pool stinks and a guy like KG can at least keep us respectable while we hope for a good draft or a great trade.

I'm not sure how sign and trades work under the new cba but they should be somewhat the same and his value this year may come in the form of an offseason trade.

It's funny that two of our free agents would be perfect for Orlando (KG and Ray).  They wouldn't need KG to be a monster on the glass and he would spread the floor with his 18 footers, while Ray would just spot up from 3.

The best way to convince KG to sign for cheap would be to show him that doing so would bring in a major impact player.  Can't see him signing for less to give us room to bring in something like Kwame and Nick Young.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

yeh KG is totally still worth that $$, man hes been great lately especially, but i bet he takes less to play for a contender and go to the finals one last time next year like his buddy sheed. sadly that team wont be us.

ray ray gonna go somewhere for a few years and be a sixth man.  kyle korver should enjoy his time in chicago this year cuz next year his job belongs to shuttlesworth.

Especially when he was paid $25 million and was worth $40 in his prime, or in 07-08 when he was probably worth $30.

I predict NJ will pay $30 million on a 2 year contract. The Nets will spend big money for good house hold names when they open that new arena in Brooklyn. Hopefully that will allow the C's to swipe Humphries away from them.

Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

Except they will only give him 1 year, so they can go after Howard the following summer.  But yeah, the Nets will absolutely go hard after KG.
