Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge has discussed trading Ray Allen to the Pacers, according to an ESPN report on Friday.

“When Danny and I talked about trading for Ray, he wanted Tyler Hansbrough and a first-round pick,’’ Pacers general manager Larry Bird said.

“If that’s the value he’s putting on Ray Allen, he ain’t getting it. That tells me he’s in no hurry to trade him.’’

No reason not to believe Larry, here.  Glad to see Danny isn't trying to under-sell our guys like last year.

Isnt it frowned upon what Larry did tell the media about there conversation? I thought that was kind of dumb

Its posturing.  Larry is going to be in the middle of a lot of trade discussions over the next week, and he wants to make it clear to every GM that Tyler Hansbrough is not a throw-in.  It also is an attempt to set a lower value for Ray, so other GMs don't outbid what he is offering to pay.

That would be good value for Ray. That is a good message for the Celtics. It shows that Danny is only going to make trades that are clearly good value. He is not trying to just dump guys.

Or he is negotiating and asking for more than he knows he is going to get.  While Danny might have been asking to be blown away weeks before the trade deadline, it doesn't mean the price won't change as the deadline approaches and discussions become serious, and not just throwing things against the wall.
