Trade only makes sense if Danny thinks it would be worth trying to upgrade the roster.  Would give us more athleticism / defense at SG and we'd have a legitimate center, finally.

Hornets get out of Ariza's contract (2 years left at $7 million) and get a late 1st this year.

I just don't trust Kaman to stay healthy to give up that much for him, and I am not an Ariza fan at all, so I would not give up Ray for something like that.

I'm not saying I'd do it either, but if there's any thought in the organization that the team has a chance to go on a run this season, that's the kind of trade that would be necessary.

Definitely a gamble, there's no doubt about that.  But getting a legit center and a big, athletic wing who plays good defense and can hit perimeter shots (basically Pietrus only better) would really upgrade this team.

He would be backup C for 15-20 mins

I don't see any other option being available without weakening other areas of the team .

If the center we were talking about was Gortat, I'd do it! We need a tough C!! I don't watch Kaman, is he tough (I mean someone who would bust wade or brinda in the mouth like how Shaq put his foot on that butt last season)?
