First off, is Howard and Sheed > Gasol and Bynum? I seriously doubt it.

Second the T-Pups need a SF or SG not a PF, so unless Gasol can play the 3 why the hell would they make that trade?

There was that year when Kahn collected a bunch of point guards, then Kahn collected a bunch of power forwards, so the idea of Minnesota acquiring more players than they need at a given position is the norm, not an unthinkable thing.

Collecting cheap PG's via the draft or FA is enough to do and still have a cap space. Collecting PF's that make 15mil + is not. This move does noting to make them a better team this year hence they will not make this trade. Beasley, Williams, and Barea should be enough to bring back a starting SG or SF who will be around for the future.

Lakers send out: Bynum, Gasol
Lakers receive: Howard,Beasley,Barea

Magic send out: Howard
Magic receive: Bynum,Williams

Twolves send out: Beasley,Williams,Barea
Twolves receive: Gasol

Was posted on the realgm general board, from a Spanish site, apparently they broke out the news that Barea was signing with the Twolves a while back. Maybe they know his agent or something since he's mentioned in this trade ?

Anyway if this happened the Lakers would be favourites to win it all.

Barea/Fisher
Kobe/Barnes
Beasley/MWP
Sheed/McBob
Howard/Murphy

Beasley,Barea are not so good, but Barea is better than Fisher, Beasley starting and MWP coming off the bench doesn't hurt the Lakers either.

I'm not sure why Minny does this trade; seems it's giving up a good deal more than it's getting. Also, any team with a 37-year-old Sheed in the starting lineup isn't a favorite for anything positive.

Trading 3 bench players for the second best center in basketball doesn't make you better.  What world do you live in?
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

The point remains that you're expecting David Kahn to automatically do only things that you consider logical and sensible.  My answer to your question of why the T-Wolves would do that trade is because Kahn is the GM and you can't completely count out the possibility of him doing something that appears to make no sense.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
What we could offer the T Wolves is Pierce and Ray to sure up this deal. I don't know what we'd get.
Maybe Peckovic back or a 2013+2014 first round pick?

Gasol
Love
Pierce
Ray
Rubio

Nasty.

If they can't get Gasol, we give them the complete big 3 package and replace Gasol with Garnett.

They'd be a legit contender.
Can you imagine adding Love and Rubio to this team for Rondo?

OH EM GEE.

Wes Johnson sucks, you'd figure they'd keep Williams as the project 3 man and dump Johnson to Orlando.
I'd take him and a pick for Ray to ensure our lottery standing next year.
