I kinda want to do those old style photos where you pose in Civil War photos, (sometimes with a chick dressed as an old style lady of the evening or whatnot) with like a brother or father...

question is....North or South?  Anyone have experience with this? Do people look at it and say "South?!"  I mean won't the darkness of the blue northern uni kind of make the picture way too dark?  Anyone lost any friends over this?  How does one north and one south look?  I mean I won't put a Confed flag in the back, but still.  I'm just kinda a history guy

Yes. Eja thinks of these things and never took drugs which is probably part of the problem

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I think that it doesn't matter. It would obv be less controversial to do a north photo, but to those who matter, it won't.

Life is too short to worry about offending people on everything.  If you want the photo get the photo.   I would get Union photo were I you because the Rebs often wore union uniforms.   Then you could play it by ear, so to so.

No one alive today was directly affected by the Civil War no matter what they tell you.  We are what 3-4 generations removed if not more.

Make sure you brandish a weapon during the photo.  This is key.   A lot of those photos were shown with a knife or pistol brandished.  It was something they did even if they were a common infantryman and used a rifle.

LARP.

But I think I'd be crying my eyeballs out with laughter five minutes into dressing up for it.

Seconded, on both counts. Also, Yoga and personal fitness classes where the trainer screams at you like a boot camp insructor.

So I got a couple cheap watches, a class ring, couple Catholic crosses I wear. Nothing gaudy or even slightly blingish, but over the years it added up.  Wife says I should get a small men's jewelry box.  I don't know what to do. Any of you guys run into this problem? How'd you solve it?

I actually have two men's jewelry boxes (one engraved with my initials) and a humidor, all gifts over the years from my mother.  I own two of watches, a wedding band and a class ring.  99% of the time I do not wear any of them and I do not smoke cigars.  I love my mom but am starting to wonder if she knows me at all...
