Seriously, what is the fascination with Omer Asik?  I see so many threads on this guy, and he's nothing more than a backup center.  Please stop the madness.......
Asik is a very similar player to Perkins.  Very good defender and good rebounder.  He has a more versed offensive game.  And yes he is 25, but it is only his second year in the league, and coming over from a foreign country there is often an adjustment period.

I'm sorry, but I don't see the Perkins comparison at all.  Asik doesn't make you think twice about driving the lane like Perkins does.  He's not as physical and I don't think he's as good as a post or help defender like Perk is/was.  Honestly, I think Semih Erden has just as much upside as Asik.  Chicago would be lucky to get someone like Ray-Ray for the stretch run, and to make it seem like we are getting a steal with Asik is going a bit overboard, imho.
Asik's DRTG is 92.  his BLK% is 4.5.  Perk's career BLK% is 4.8.  Asik actually grabs a higher percentage of boards than Perk does, in fact Asik's career RB% of 19 is higher than Perk has gotten than any season since his rookie year.  Even their TO% and USG% are pretty similar.  Asik isn't quite as physical as Perk, but the comparison was apt whether you want to recognize it or not and given Asik's more versatile offensive game he has far more potential going forward.

If the Bulls are uncertain they can keep him (affordably) in free agency, they might move him.  They'd definitely want a center in return though.

If you expanded the deal to Ray/Pietrus for Korver/Hamilton and then Brewer/Asik for JO/Sasha, Chicago might be more interested.

Asik is currently committing 4.6 fouls per 36 minutes, so he's likely to have some problems with staying on the court.  He's also shooting 38.6% from the line.  If his defensive rating is 92, his offensive rating is 91.

Statistically, he's not as good at blocking shots as Jermaine O'Neal this season, so it would be reasonable to say Osik would provide much of what O'Neal gives with better rebounding, worse everything else, and an inability to reliably play much more minutes than JO due to likely foul trouble.

Pietrus/O'Neal for Hamilton/Asik might make more sense for Chicago than a deal involving Ray Allen.  The Bulls would get a wing who is a better defender in preparation of a possible playoff series against the Heat.

Remember when Baby would foul every few plays early on? I don't view a high foul rate as unfixable. Sure, it may be a symptom of being slow or at least slow to respond. Or, it may be a symptom of a system where he is told to be physical and not to worry about fouls since he isn't that vital.

no go, seriously. Stop 2013 cap space on mediocre players.  We don't want to be the new pistons.

You get cap space for big time players. As long as they won't sign, just hand out 1 year contracts and get as many lottery picks each year as you can get = quickest way to rebuild and much more fun then being the eternal 8-10 best team in the eastern conf.  That's the nightmare scenario of the second half of the nineties all over again.

I have a suspicion that Asik's foul troubles probably have more similarities to Semih Erden's foul problems than how Glen Davis played.

Fancy stats aside, I just don't see the comparison.  When I see Asik anchor a defense (like Perk has), then maybe I'll come around.  Let's just agree to disagree. :)  And oh yeah, Erden > Asik.
