There simply are times when every human being has the moral right to tell their boss that they have better, more important things to do, and the boss simply has to take it.

Call me callous, but does anyone get frustrated when these guys take time off during the season, missing a game in which they are being paid for, for a "personal matter"?

They basically get the entire summer off, and unlike the rest of us who live in the normal / real world (in which I get 2 weeks of vacation and am required to work the other 50 weeks)...

Oh, I know I'll get basted by some here, and that's okay.

Did Larry Bird ever take games off for "personal matters"?

using bird is a terrible example.....bird wasnt exactly a "family man"  :-\

regardless of one's job, schedule, or salary....real life gets in the way sometimes.  people have to prioritize when situations arise.  the celtics organization doesnt have an issue with it, and they are the employer.

Is it me, or is this thread getting weird?

KG is notorious for doing everything in his power to NOT miss games. He is also notorious for keeping his personal life private.

How so few on here are not giving him the benefit of the doubt is surprising.

He clearly got the OK from the team, so it's not because his kid is in the 2nd-grade spelling bee or anything of the sort. It's a serious matter and he will return whenever he does.

Last time I tried that tack, I paid the ultimate price. I lost my job when I came back to down. Of course I was working for back-stabbing scoundrels and I had myself covered with two job offers.
The beatings will continue until morale improves

Some bosses are just immoral.  That's why we need laws to make them treat their employees right.

Not having to work for scoundrels plus getting to put first things first, with a choice of job offers?  Nice!

That's the way it's supposed to work.
